Straight from that creep David Frost's mouth...
Quote: |
Yesterday, in the NHL Notes section I wrote a story before the Sean Avery interview in Calgary, that I knew that he was going to use that exact same line to Dion Phaneuf, the difference was I thought, as Avery always does it would be on the ice. As I mentioned yesterday, I know Avery very well from the years in the OHL he played against players that I represented, including as I said yesterday Mike Danton. Danton use to laugh at Avery and his mouth in the OHL and would constantly get into debate with him about why Avery would not drop his gloves with him. This continued in the NHL when Avery was first with Detroit and played against Danton when he was with New Jersey and then again with Avery the Kings and Danton the Blues. Avery picks and chooses who and when he fights and constantly churps everyone on the ice. The Blues players in 2004 could not believe how quiet Avery was when Danton played head to head against him. Avery simply wanted nothing to do with fighting Danton head on.
That said Avery can play the game and is a very effective player, just look at the Rangers record last year when he was in the line up vs when he wasnt. The Rangers were a much better team when he was playing and he was loved in New York by the fans, this much there is no question. Brendan Shanahan took care of Averys mouth at the rink last season and the Rangers would not allow Avery to talk to Canadian sports media and did their best to try to protect him from that. Brett Hull co GM with the Stars played with Avery in Detroit and signed Avery to a lucrative free agent multi million multi year deal this past summer.
Hull, today on Hockey Central radio show said that he, himself has no control over what owner Tom Hicks may tell them to do about Averys comments, Hull said that he is not sure if the kid will be able to continue with the team. Avery is an idiot for saying what he said premeditated to TSN cameras and should have saved it, if he felt that it would get his team an edge on the ice, then saying it to Phaneuf only and only on the ice. Phaneuf would fill in Averys face without a doubt if there was a fight , so chances are Avery would run his mouth and still be scared to drop his gloves 1 on 1 with Calgarys tough rearguard. Avery may have to move on now and if he does, he will move with this big contract with him . If he shuts his mouth and just plays the game and stirs the pot on the ice and on the ice only, he is a very useful player and would help any team needing that element to their roster. I can think of several teams that could use his style of play including Toronto and Vancouver to say a few. They both have the cap room to add Avery and both have General Managers that they may be able to handle Avery and keep a lid on the big mouth kid. Avery if nothing else is interesting to watch, but yesterday he went way over the line with his premeditated comments. Video below : |

Man, that clip was SOOO funny. I was cracking up while watching it -- and a bunch of others featuring Avery's antics -- over and over yesterday.
He'll be sent somewhere in the AHL, or maybe he'll eff off to Europe again. |

He billeted at my house in an Atom hockey tournament. He was exactly the same when he was 12. |

after watching the TSN bit, Brett Hull likes him. He doesn't miss practices and he plays balls to the wall. He's a loose cannon at times but he has a ton of heart.
interesting to hear what Hull says on that telephone interview. He points to the poor play of the others on the team.
Bettman sounds like an idiot - guys beat the shit outta each other all the time but Avery says this and it's, "That's not what we want our fans to see." |

PLEASE SEND HIM TO THE LEAFS!!! I am a Sens fan...the guys sucks, plain and simple. The last few years he has played, he has been bringing the game down. They are making rules based on his game. Players in the league don't like him and nobody wants him in the dressing room.
Tucker wasn't the classiest guy but he is head and shoulders above Avery.
And for those of you who think he should join the Leafs...do you really think Brian Burke will take him...NOT A CHANCE! |
