CNN is denouncing this comment as "sexist." Do you agree...?

Quote:
How many times have politicians been warned about the dangers of an open microphone? And yet, on Tuesday, the lectern mic at the National Governors Conference picked up this little nugget from Pennsylvania's Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell.

He's having a conversation near the lectern about President-elect Barack Obama's choice for to lead the Homeland Security Department, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano. Here is what Rendell said about Napolitano:

Rendell: "Janet's perfect for that job. Because for that job, you have to have no life. Janet has no family. Perfect. She can devote, literally, 19-20 hours a day to it."

Wow. Now, I'm sure Gov. Napolitano has many qualifications for the job beyond having no family, and therefore the ability to devote 20 hours a day to the job.

But it is fascinating to me that that is the quality being highlighted here as so perfect. C'mon. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is married with two grown children. His predecessor, Tom Ridge, had a family. Anybody remember a debate about whether they would have trouble balancing the demands of work and family?

Is Barack Obama going to provoke another decade dominated by the goddammed PC people...?

I don't know if the remarks were sexist, but they were a little bit insulting. Of course, we all say mildly unflattering things about people we know, just not into a microphone.

Politicians should ALWAYS assume the microphone is on, even if they can see with their own eyes that its not plugged in. Those who fail to observe this basc rule get little sympathy from me.

How exactly is Obama provoking anything? Do you think Campbell Brown's comment would be any different if she were talking about a McCain appointee?

On the Other Hand: I agree. Politicians should know better.

Ha ha. You guys sometimes respond to me with a kind of "they-killed-Kenny!" defiant outrage. I chalk it up to age difference. But still, why are you defending "the people in power?" Why can you not think independently? What are you...some kind of mindless, nationalist drone?

Jaykimf: just answer the poll question and move on, please.

I voted no, because the statement doesn't have anything to do with her gender.

Not sexist. Obama being a family man, I think he sees the commitments and value of family time. Mothers and fathers both have those commitments =not sexist.

Defiant outrage? Seems to me you are projecting.

I suspect your chalk is off the mark, unless you're considerably younger than I am.

What the hell are you talking about? Where, when and how have I defended "the people in power"? Have you got me confused with someone else? Or are you just spouting nonsense?

You are the one who asked the question:

Why shouldn't I respond to your question? Of course I understand you'd prefer to avoid trying to explain that bit of nonsense.

Hmmmm.... fairly concisely put question. It does seem that there is nothing else you can slag Obama off for, but then that isnt a shock. He hasnt even been sworn in yet....

Should we ask our question in shorter words?
