Lately I'm beginning to feel how I imagine a veteran would feel.
Dave's was new and slightly refreshing, each thread had some new piece of insight, positive or negative, into the place I had chosen to be at this moment in my life. Posters had an air of wisdom about them that seemed unattainable. I could see the reality of their words everyday in this foreign land.
While it was definitely present before, I find the amount of speculation/generalization overwhelming these days; because, now rather than a product of actual experience, I feel the conclusions drawn about life in Korea to largely be a product of hearsay. Newbies aren't talking about themselves, they are talking about partially realized, potentially misunderstood preconceptions.
Minus the socks and the trolls (who, admittedly, keep things interesting), the newbies seem to have brought little more to the table than a rewording of that which has come before.
Any thoughts?
P.S. I'm drunk, and probably won't remember exactly what I was thinking when I wrote this if I respond. |

Many of the veteran posters have moved on and there is definitely an influx of new people on the board. Good or bad? That is for your discretion. I know which I like better.  |

| No, it hasn't gone that far down in the almost four years I've been on here (has it been that long?). There was not much insight back then either, and people were just as dumb back then. There were major, valid complaints that this board was filled with retards back then. The only difference is now that the moderators have been whipped by one lone nut into turning this place into a police state. |

Good point. I will add that there are quite a few overly sensitive people these days (more so than I remember). |

I think someone needs to read their Durkheim. Maybe similar circumstances breed similar experiences and by thinking too hard about this kind of stuff you commiting a massive ecological error yourself.
I think you're just bored dude and sorry to say there is no way you will ever verify your assumptions. |

| When almost 50% of respondants think a 25-year-old teacher should persue a relationship with a high school girl (albeit not his own student) you have to wonder not only about maturity levels but how Korean society will perceive us collectively. There are many times when this site makes me so incredibly thankful that I'm the only foreigner at my school. |

So you wouldn't date a 17-18yr old high school student when you were 25?
Or when you turn 25, since I dont know your age....
Isn't it common for Korean college students or just older men to date high school students? I swear ive seen a lot of movies/tv dramas with this idea... |

I remember listening to a sports talk show address this very issue a few years ago. He explained it very simply. Although the young girl might think it's cool to go out with an older man, when she turns 25ish herself, then she'll come to realize how utterly creepy that guy was for doing that. |

BTW, with many it's not "maturity" so much as it is stupidity or mental health issues.  |
