they're advertising online thru "Careerfinder".

I guess they're really ramping up the effort.

but at the current exchange rate, you truly almost have to be jobless without much hope to come to Korea (as a grad of any decent college)

Wow, that's a first. I'm very sure there are more than enough people would and could come do this if they knew about it despite the exchange rate. It's still got attractive qualities such as the opportunity to travel, get an up close insight in an Asian culture, and save money. It struck me as being odd that I never seen any ads for foreign English teachers in Korea on job sites(except Daves), employment centers, and college career services other than JET in Japan. I discovered this by accident when my career services advertised the JET program in Japan 2 years after graduating. I couldn't get that since I didn't have money for the flight and apartment. Funny thing, it's not Japanese interviewing you at a college campus, it was a Polish woman in my case. I almost joined NOVA 2 1/2 years ago, but backed out when I seen it too require thousands of dollars start up when a Korean hagwon paid more and provided the prepaid flight and apartment.

When I did a Google search on JET 3 years ago, Korea also came up through finding Daves and sparked my interest since it didn't require thousands of dollars upfront to get the job like Japan does, but appeared sorta shady or unpopular so I read this site for 6 months to be convinced it was something I could do. Now, more and more are taking up the offer since it's becoming more well known now days. When I went to my Secretary of State's office in person, they said they were seeing a sudden surge of apostille for CBC during May and June coming from graduating university students so it's probably true that a recruiter went through the University of Missouri career services to get candidates. They're talking on my alumni site since I've been reporting for the past year in my profile of doing this job. When your friends and relatives talk to their coworkers, friends, and others about you, this results in a few others from your local area coming to Korea. There just aren't many decent jobs outside of nursing anymore where I came from which my sister is a prison nurse getting 7 weeks vacation and $25/hour with full benefits while most jobs pay $7 with no benefits. Korea is very attractive to many back home, but most can't see it realistic to pick up stakes since it presents conflicts of interest with family.

When I was home in Missouri for 3 months last Spring, I'd get to talking with people in stores and end up telling them what I've been doing, they got very interested in this teaching in Korea thing, not only for the opportunity to save money, but to travel and do interesting things. I had so many cashiers and retail sales people with college degrees trying to convince their spouses to go as a couple, but usually their partner deems it impractical to pick up roots like this so neither can go. With singles, it would so easy to recruit for this job at home if you had the connections in Korea to place them in jobs. I wonder if recruiters would be willing to hire people on commission back home to act as agents that help match candidates up with recruiters?

I found my job on Craigslist in Chicago (last summer). But it wasn't directly through EPIK. It was with a recruiter.
