What is it with the korean mentality that they must conquer the U.S???
Check out what they say about a korean singer name boa trying to become a star in New York and the rest of the U.S.
Here is the strategy
1. They had a contest and got 25 fans (in the photos they were 97 percent korean fans) and those fans sat in the audience and cheered as boa danced.
2 The Times square t.v showed the performance for ALL TO SEE.
But it was at ........11am, as people were at work I am sure 
3. Mtv asia interviewed her, and her 'world fans' (just koreans) and put that on their web page
VOILA, she thinks she is a star in the U.S now. How sad

Whenever my students talk about "international superstar Rain" I kindly informthem that Rain wouldn't get picked up hitchhiking in North America, his three biggest shows in the states and one in Canada got cancelled and the bulk of his notoriety came form being the butt of a joke on the Colbert Report.
They don't understand half of that however and go on believing that the Korean wave is something much more than a fart in a bubblebath in the US. |

I'm not going to claim that Rain or Boa are world stars but they are quite popular outside of Korea (in Asia). I visited Vietnam earlier this year and he's seemingly more popular there than in Korea. Same with Boa. I know she is most popular in Japan.
They definitely don't register with the vast majority of Americans (other than Koreans, some other Asians and Stephen Colbert) but they do have popularity outside of Korea. |

Jesus some of you americans are arrogant...If a celeb is extremely popular througout asia, claiming they are an international superstar is not a a false claim. America is not the only country on earth. |

Oh and this isnt a korean thing....Singers from all over the world try to 'break' the US market...because its the biggest in the world.
You hear the same stuff from singers/bands in europe. |

You are right. They are international superstars. Good for them. But they and their management all have a hard on for succeeding in America. Making claims such as "Rain conquers America" when in actuality only Koreans residing there have heard of him.
Is there a reason other than the money that these "artists" really want to make it in the US? |

Everyone outside of the US has a hardon for making it in the US. The US is the biggest market, most lucrative and if they can succeed there, it means theyve overcome huge odds to do so.
Ive never seen Rain or his dudes claim he has conquered america. I have seen his fans saying such things. |

And Canada. So many try, but only few make it in the US. Why do the Barenaked Ladies and Celine Dion make it big, but Tragically Hip or Dream Warriors can't? |
