As well as running Hogwans, YBM is also in the recruiting business.
YBM is now recruiting for public schools. This is the 'deal' they are offering.
9:00-5:00 at Elementary schools where the teacher, teaches the normal school program AND the afternoon program. All for a total of 2.8m.
Elementary school jobs by themselves pay 2.8+, after school programs by themselves pay 2.0-2.5.
Basically the teacher is doing two jobs but only getting paid for one with most probably YMB pocketing the rest.
Watch out for these people! |

teaching adults
split shifts
around 2 million won per month
no housing
(not sure about airfaire, pension, medical, severance, etc..) |

YBM is nothing but another chaebol.
The adult hogwan YBM's split shifts are often extreme; we're talking first session at 6:30 am and your last one wrapping up at 9:50 pm.
Many YBM Academic Supervisors have no professional background in education whatsoever, or minimal teaching experience in Korea and none of it in supervisory roles, with management and HR skills to match. Many are selected for their jobs due to having spousal or kyopo visas.
You can look back to a thread of mine from August of this year to see what one of them tried to pull with demanding my original degree.
There are also the requisite useless Korean sinecured staff.
It doesn't surprise me they are now trying to skim money off public school jobs. |

I was about to re-sign at my public school job until they were handed the reins. It's for country schools. Before they took over some classes were regular classes and some were 'afterschool' classes to make up your hours.
Apparently after they took over the management of the foreign staff, there were required overnight camps added (contract said for no overtime). They may dictate the class material for the after school classes. They regularly hold useless meetings. Or so I've heard. |

Yes, my friend was considering one of those adult teaching positions with them. But after you break it down in terms of pay per hour, with respect to the fact that they dont provide housing -- just key money and a meager 200,000 won per month housing allowance -- it seems they are basically using the means of paying teachers very little to increase their profit margins. That, and of course those ghastly split shifts. I'd say that YBM is probably ONLY a good place to work if you absolutely want to work in Korea and you absolutely can't stand teaching kids and you absolutely can't get a job at a University... |
