So what is it: 3 mil. for three nights, or 3 mil. for seven days?
|
The one I'm going to in July is 3 million for 7 days. |

Please don't support evil. All the money will go to perpetuate the inhuman Kim regime. Instead of going, donate here:

The sooner NK collapses, the sooner you can go on a real tour there. Thanks. |

Your taxes probably get spent on killing innocent Iraqis. |

1. Non sequitur
2. How do you know where I pay my taxes?
3. If you pay taxes in South Korea, you help support the regime of the North through the South's food aid. If you pay taxes in China, you help sponsor Chinese government killings of political dissidents for body parts... see where this is going? |

.... well we seem to be leaving rational arguments behind and degenerating into mindless propaganda. |

| i just don't know why anyone in their right mind would pay money to be herded around like cattle while on vacation. do you really want to go somewhere MORE authoritarian, homogenous, and xenophobic? i guess it'd earn you valuable backpacker cred points, although some places are off the traveler's circuit not because they're difficult to reach, but because they suck. |

I heard (from a friend) that Pyongyang is really, really boring. People are not straight with you. They put on an absolute alter-identity - People on the streets and in public are not allowed to approach and talk to you, but when you approach them they must serve you and usher you along quickly. That's like shopping in a place right here in Seoul but one in which the shopkeepers don't really want you around, like some kind of embarassment ... To me, that is boring.
It's also gray, cold etc.
Three million won? Psshh. Go somewhere decent. |

I went with Koryo in 2005 for 10 days and all up, including cost to China, cost me around 5 million won. Koryo were extremely professional and I had absolutely no problems during the trip.
I highly recommend them.
Photo from my trip are on my site. |

| It takes a special kind of tourist to journey to the most isolated and totalitarian nation on Earth. Not for everyone but hardly anyone from the west has been inside. I've thought about it for the experience but my money would probably be better spent in some place beautiful. |

Special? Special needs more like.
How is it a big deal to pay over the odds for an organised tour to the most oppressive regime on Earth; that doesn't make you an adventurer, it makes you a mug and just like the thousands of mindless nobbers who pay 4 million won for organised K tours to Phuket. |

I respectfully disagree.
Experiencing a place so different from anywhere else on Earth appeals to me a lot. Gloablization has caused much of the world to become so similar. I am in Daejeon now but really, I could be in any city in the world. Pyongyang has a uniqueness that I find intriguing. If you don't 'get that', then fine but to say that those who want to experience it are mugs is out of order. |
