I am now looking for a job and would like you guy's input on which ones are the best to deal with. I will be visiting ESL-PLANET this week and hopefully will be visiting schools very soon after that. The main thing I care about are hours, owners (bosses), and pay, in that order.

Please tell me what you think!

Miso

I went with ESL Planet for a public school job. They were super friendly and answered my question quickly. I'm not sure about private though. But if they're half as friendly as they were with me, you'll be fine.

Did you like the job the got for you? Are you still at that job?

Thanks for the input!

I look at all recruiters. I am more interested in finding the right school than putting blind faith into one recruiter.

I signed up with 2 schools through recruiters. One was through http://www.eze365.com/ (The job was way out in the country, but I knew what I was getting into and actually had no complaints considering.)

The other was through WorknPlay, and they did a lot of negotiating. Some of it I understood, other parts didn't make much sense. Be careful in getting what you want from them.

There are many other recruiters, just send your resume and photo to all and see what offers you get. Don't take the first one, and get a feel for the average of offers. You will see the same things being offered and know better when one recruiter is screwing you over.

For more info, feel free to read something I sent in email to someone else asking about working in Korea http://jadarite.wikispaces.com/workinasia

There's another question I have. Do you send a generic resume or do they need/want something more specific? I have only had 1 job since I got out of college (long story) so my resume will be very short.

Thanks for the responses!

I would say send the same resume to hagwons/private schools. Unless you are trying to get a university job, which it doesn't look like it, then you can probably do the same with public schools. If you really want a middle school, you may need to give more specific information.

I got this impression when I worked in Japan and here in Korea. I haven't worked at a middle school though. I tried to avoid working with kids in Japan, and then I accepted it as a reality when I came to Korea. I think middle schools want you to get experience first with younger kids.

Maybe others who got middle school jobs right out of college can provide more info on how they got them.

I'm pretty happy with this group. Remember to let them know what you want and only agree to the location when it's something you want as well. Don't feel pressured to agree just because the recruiter wants their bonus. Also, remember to research about the school/ hagwon your going into. Search it on these boards, google it and remember to search the name of the school/ hagwon in English and Korean.

My recruiter was Korvia and I thought they did a great job in getting my job. Matched my criteria for schools, good support, and no bull in the process.

Pub high school, GEPIK program.

Absolutely not! I genuinly want help! I have heard a lot of good about this recruiter ON THIS SITE, that's the ONLY reason I mentioned it.

I'm sorry if you don't believe me. Tell me where you think I ought to go!

I will just say, don't use ACE Career Consulting. I was trying to get a public school job, she gives me the documents I need and the emails inside of the documents don't even work. I email her to notify her and she never even emails me back.
