Why is "the queen" trying to intervene in the affairs of Canada, an American state? Doesn't she know that Canada is America's puppy/biatch/little bro?

She is literally the Queen. There is no need of putting quotation marks since she's really an monarch. And she is NOT intervening in anyone's affairs (American or otherwise), she doesn't give two shits about what happens in Canada with regards to the government. I would also like to submit for the record that Canada is not an American state in the sense that I think you are referring to it as. We are a North American nation state but not a United State of America.

Regardless of how America views Canada the Queen of England has NOTHING to do with how our government is run. She does not choose who sits in the Senate. She does not choose our officials for us... the only thing she has to worry about in regards to Canada is that we get her face right on our money. She is our sovereign by title only. I think most Canadians could care less about her too.

Americans; when you refer to QEII as "the Queen" you are saying that it is also your queen. I noticed this also on American news when Bush visitd with QEII. They mentioned Bush's visit with the queen. The should have refered to her as QEII. It's only "the Queen when it is your queen.

Josh,

Thanks for the discourse. It is very helpful for me, an American who never actually met a Canadian before moving to Korea (well, I did see a few over the years gassing up their RV's out on the interstate highway, on their way to Florida for the winter).

You must be refering to South Korea, Saipan, and some other countries that you meddle in. You had your chance to invade and failed. Try it again, and you will lose again, not because we are a super power but because you can't afford the fuel as your nation is broke.

Nick,

Come on, man, the Michigan (or North Dakota) National Guard could roll in and take Canada before daybreak, if they wanted to (not that it's whatt I am advocating).

Don't take my original post so personally! Lighten up........

Michigan can't find Canada on a map of north America with USA and CANADA written on it and nothing else. Half the people in Michigan can't read anyway so finding Canada would require them to be dropped in by a pilot who CAME from Canada.

Josh,

Haha, you are right about the Michigan block heads, haha! Hopefully, the North Dakotans would do a little better (or maybe that other state on the Canadian border, what is it Montana or something? haha!)

Naw, we'll give them a few beers and set them up with a game. I think we've got Maine covered... I'm pretty scared of New York though. Those bastards are tough.

Dion's gone. Ignatiuf will replace him I assume, and he isn't supporting this nonsense.

Dave's has been buggy. Sometimes the post function hangs for a long time and results in multiple posts.

Keep telling yourself this and ignore the facts.

"The present monarch is Elizabeth II officially titled Queen of Canada
... the Queen is the only member of the Royal Family with any constitutional role, holding ultimate executive authority...."

She has the Royal Prerogative in Canada.

In the United Kingdom and Canada, the power to issue passports remains under the Royal Prerogative.

Rule Britannia!!!!!!!

You're missing the point. She doesn't DO anything with regards to Canadian politics or policies. It's her official title yes... but it's a title by ceremony only. I'm not ignoring anything, I'm telling it like it is. The Queen of England doesn't intervene, dissolve, talk to, make decisions for, or give 2 shits about Canadian domestic politics. She'd care if it had something to do with England... maybe.

Here is a guy who would probably agree with Jandar's analysis of Canada's political system. From The Economist's letter section...

Quote:
Canadas current governor-general, who represents the queen as head of state, is a black woman. She succeeded a Chinese woman. Neither were born in Canada, hailing from Haiti and Hong Kong respectively. Although Mr Obamas election may be a major milestone for the United States, it seems a little quaint to a Canadian to suggest that our southern neighbour is suddenly politically colour-blind, or that it has the most credible claim among Western nations to have that status. The view from the north may be that it is nice to see them catching up. Who knows? Maybe some day theyll amend their constitution to allow an immigrant from whatever origin to rise to the top spot.

Andrew Work
Hong Kong

This goofball's defense of Canada as being ahead of the US on color-blind leadership depends for its validity on the idea that an appointed GG is equivalent, in terms of importance and influence, to an elected POTUS. A viewpoint shared, roughly, by Jandar and Company(though Jandar seems to think that it's the Queen who is the big mover and shaker in Canadian politics).

As an aside, I find it hard to believe that The Economist actually published this letter. I'm wondering if they have some vendetta against Canadians, and are trying to make us all look stupid or something.
