Does anyone have any suggestions for day tours that are worthwhile in Thailand (I will be in the area of Bangkok, and then moving my way up to Chiang Mai).
Also, does anyone have any advice for booking day tours, and which companies are reputable. I have been doing a lot of research, and there seems to be a lot of choices. Can anyone help give suggestions? |

I normally hate bus tours, but I actually enjoyed:
www.tigertemplethailand.com/
In as much as: that it wasn't too overtly lame.
The monks were nice and tigers also pretty interesting (although the temperature was so hot, it is no wonder the tigers had no energy).
Certainly the tiger tour beats the elephants tour in my opinion. |

I took a bus to Kanchanoburi and then drove a motor bike out to tiger temple. It was a challenge to find, but I had a great time.
There is that Ancient City place within day trip reach of Bangkok. There are Ayuttia tours.
You can go get on the Sky train and if it's Saturday, check out Chajuchat market and then go to Siam Square for some modern shopping. The Paragon mall has real western things for sale like Dockers, Apple IPOD and accessories, and good food.
It's best to just get out of Bangkok and spend some time in the real Thailand. |

You can go temple hoping. There are at least a dozen in Bangkok wear long pants as some won't let you enter with shorts. You might be asked to visit a tailor shop if you catch the Tuk Tuk on Kho San road. If you do don't buy anything.
There are lots of nice longboat tours of the canals in BKK. Don't go with a tout.
Wat Pho( the temple with the reclining Buddah is never closed. Once you get near this temple you'll get yahoo's telling you it's closed just so they can provide you with an alternative rip off plan. |

Do a tour that busses you up to Ayutthaya and the Summer Palace then a river cruise with food and drinks back down to Bangkok - a fantastic day! |

I've heard the River Kwai day trip is okay--just make sure to book it so it avoids any mandatory shopping excursions. |
