its close! they have a great culture, laid back, hippy, spiritual, great beaches and food, good for shopping, I mean when you compare it to other south east asian, thailand stands out as the leader.. not saying there are not better beaches or food etc elsewhere.. just that thailand seems to have everything one needs..

and regards to naughty night life! DAMN STRAIGHT!!!! hahahaahah
every country needs a Soi Cowboy!!!

patpong used to be fun too. it was like a circus of sex for those of us that wanted to see but not touch. i even took my wife to a ping pong show . . . for about 3 minutes until she walked out.

When I went there I thought it was annoying but now I wanna go back. Mainly cause it's easy for tourists and I like to look at Thai boys.

Better food, by far, warm weather, cheaper food and lodging, people were almost as warm as the weather, didn't smell like burning plastic... ooops, sorry. I was compairing Thailand to Korea. Embarassed

Dispite having to stay an extra week due to the protests we still love it and will return this winter at least once, maybe twice.

Thai plastic smells like ginger, cilantro and jasmin rice when it burns. Wink

It's funny how a lot of those who work in Thailand want to get out, while a lot of those who work in Korea want to go there. If you're going to the land of smiles to play, definitely do it up. If you're going to work, well...you should think twice on that one.

several of my workmates have been serving time in Korea to work their butts off and save only to go live it up in Thailand. They don't even give Korea a chance, eating tuna fish and bread daily hiding out in their apartments. apparently they live it up in Thailand for similiar money now

I've been there and done that, like the laid back lifestyle, the beaches and the girlie bars but it all comes down to the SEJONGS

I love Thailand. I am going there in 2 weeks for a short visit. My wife left on Tuesday and is having a ball in Thailand right now. It is a fantastic country with a great deal to offer. It is fun, warm, and cheap. I am a bit biased since my wife is Thai. Nonetheless, I loved the country before I met her. To put money in the bank and pay bills, you live in Korea (that used to be the rule before this exchange rate mess). To live a good live and relax, you live in Thailand. If it weren't for the money, I would be in Thailand without a second thought or any remorse.

Yes, Thailand is a lovely country, but there's no money in it and so many Thai are gnawing at me like I'm some kind of ATM. Maybe that has to do with being a tourist and obviously having a good time. I like the smiling people, tasty food full of fresh things, tropical climate, and the many various options you have in shopping and entertainment. It's a fun country as long as you come with money.

I bet Myanmar is quite a beauty...

People like going there mainly because it's cheap and easy as far as SE Asian travel goes. It's a great taster for Asia, and I'd recommend someone to go there if they've never been to SE Asia.

The food is good, it's easy to get around, there are many traveler ghettoes, so you can fool yourself easily that you're traveling, but in fact you're safe inside of your little scene, ala Pai for example.
There are many beaches with cheap accomodation.
There are some lovely ruins.
There is a well established tourist scene, just arrive anywhere and someone will whisk you away to a guesthouse where they can organize any type of tour you want.
The Thai's are great actors fooling people that they actually like you.
Thai women do a great job of sizing you up, saying all the right things, getting your $ then giving the lot to their "real" boyfriends.

What I don't like about it is that everything is just put on a platter for you. It's too easy and my last visit left an empty feeling inside of me. Give me Vietnam any day.
I won't return but I still think it's a good place.
