With the festive season approaching, time for the Dave's ESL Cafe 2008 Awards. Here's my vote for the Post of the year in the University Category. Perhaps you could submit your proposal in the other categories like: Hagwons, Public Schools, etc

Sadly, and this is only my opinion, but my feeling on the matter is that many universities don't pay much because they do not really care who teaches conversational English nor do they really respect our credentials. The only reason they ask for certain degrees and majors is because they think it looks better but they could care less if they actually get such people.

There is probably a handfull of universities that give two sh*ts about conversational English.

Anybody will do but certainly an anybody with a snazzy degree is better than one without. So, my cynical side says don't be surprised if a university asks for the moon and barely gives a six-pence in return.

As far as I can tell, English Conversation Instructors serve two purposes: pacify students and to make money for the university. Raising salaries in order to attract higly qualified individuals only cuts into their bottom line.

I would nominate PRagic for University Posts and Ddeubl or Icnelly for Friendliest and most helpful responder.

The "Suffer no fools gladly award" would go to Bippitybop. From what I've seen, he usually ends up giving a helpful answer but not before that withering put down! Laughing

I guess I have been a bit bitter lately, but still wanting to help people. I guess it's better to get answers with a sarcastic remark than no answers at all, right?

Take me with a grain of salt, I'll cheer up after the winter vacation. Smile

And it's Bibbitybop, fool! Cool

I'd like to nominate BassExpander for the "Real Reality" category. This is the poster who posts the most news articles in the "General Discussion" and "Job Discussion" forums.

People in the "Current Events" forum on in a league of their own.

Between him, The Great Toad, and Itaewon Guy it's pretty hard to decide. But for a guy who I believe actually wrote a book, yeah.
