Did Rahmbo bring down Blago?
Think Progress notes that at least one Chicago reporter thinks that future White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel might have had something to do with the arrest of his fellow Democrat, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. And no, not because he's been caught up in the investigation, but because he may have gone to the feds and told them about the governor's alleged attempts to sell President-elect Barack Obama's Senate seat.
The reporter, Jack Conaty, said Tuesday:
We did receive a tip this morning that perhaps all of this came together so quickly because the Governor may have reached out to Rahm Emanuel, the president-elect's chief of staff, in attempting to leverage filling the Senate seat. And it may have been Rahm Emanuel who tipped the scale and made this move as quickly as it did.

That'd be interesting. |

As if the Tribune Company did not have enough problems, a day after the company filed for bankruptcy protection, federal law enforcment officials said on Tuesday that the governor of Illinois, Rod R. Blagojevich, had been illegally threatening to withhold the states help in a business deal, unless the Chicago Tribune newspaper fired editorial writers who had criticized the governor and called for his impeachment.
The writers were not fired, the editorial page continued to take on the governor, Tribune editors said Tuesday that they were not aware of any pressure from the governors office, and the company said it did not do the governors bidding.
But conversations recorded by federal investigators, and excerpted in a criminal complaint filed on Tuesday by the United States attorneys office for the Northern District of Illinois, suggest that for a few weeks, Mr. Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, believed that Tribune would give in to their demands.

also accused of engaging in pay-to-play politics that is, doling out jobs, contracts and appointments in return for campaign contributions.

Wonder how many other governors etc will have a sleepless night over this. |

wouldn't 'fall from grace' imply that someone liked him? blago's been acting a fool for years now. in fact chicagoist.com's blago political death pool is surprisingly accurate: here. just shows you how little faith people had remaining in his ability to hold office.
the only reason he was probably even caught for this is because he'd likely already had his house wire tapped to investigate all his other shady dealings. |

Rod is a POS, but after the previous republican gov. Ryan's shennanigans Hitler could have run as a Dem and gotten elected. |

Monkeyzilla, I agree, but here's how it is.
It's about time the corruptions get revealed and dealt with. I would say that most politicians are profiteers who couldn't get in the business career or it was convenient to get into public office through someone they knew or was related to. We have so many people who call themselves professionals, but have serious ethical and moral issues while they rob the American people blind while they wouldn't know how to fight their way out of a paper bag if one fell over their head. We have so many of the wrong people in executive positions due to nepotism and favoritism's in casual informal good ol' boy club cliques.
It's about time the law comes down on them and the common people take a stand if things don't improve. Of course Blagoyavich was already under investigation for 3 years so it was probably a good time to appease the general public that the new administration is looking to fix a broken system. What an example they made out of him. I bet there are many many more politicians and business leaders who would spend time in prison if someone reveals their misconduct.
The USA has been overly policing of it's common people who are usually working poor, but too lax on it's wealthy elite. Many commoners call it a police state, because it is for them, while CEO's and politicians go laughing to the bank bragging proudly about their freedoms while getting off scottfree for committed corruptions that allowed them to bank excessive amounts of money. Our leadership is a huge insult and American should had already rioted like Greece is doing right now and how Thailand has done before. I guess most common people just hope everything is going to be OK while they try to hold onto that HDTV that they so love to chill out in front of. It's more comfortable to watch TV than it is to fight. |

What do you mean another? And don't pretend like your guys' sh!t don't stink either. You could right an encyclopedia 10 volumes longs of the list of misdeeds, mismanagement, lies, criminal conduct, unethical practices, constitution shredding, cover-ups, bad policy, horrifically bad political appointees, etc.... of the Bush administration. There's good reason his legacy will be worst. president. ever.
Also, let's not forget LArry Craig, Tom DeLay, Mark Foley, Ted Stevens, etc...All under investigation or forced to resign or convicted.
As for Blagojovich? That dude's a total piece of sh!t. Should the charges prove true they should throw that douche in the slammer and lose the key. |

Looking at a pic of him today I noticed that Blagojevich really has that Bosnian Serb hair/face thing going.
He would not look out of place standing next to the still-at-large Ratko Mladic. |

Illinois politics is a toilet, and it has nothing to do with what party you're in.
|
This seems to be a fair assessment of the situation. If What'shisname goes to jail, he'll be #4 of the last 8 Illinois governors to have spent time in the slammer--and he could possibly be a roomie of the previous gov who is still in jail...and a proud Republican.
Someone said Illinois has sent an average of 2 state-level politicians to the pokey for the last 30 years. |
