Sorry for the annoying title, but mandinga and myself both have a question about obtaining visas.
Do you absolutely have to go to the consulate that is in your region?
We both are trying to get our visas through the Hawaiian consulate but both live on the east coast.
Is this possible? What hoops would we have to jump through? |

I don't know about Hawaii, but for Canada I was offered to do a Skype interview because I live 12 hours away from the nearest office. All I had to do was send them my documents along with a self address envelope and they send it all back (with a new shinny Visa) when it's processed. |

I've heard it's really hit or miss. I was in the Chicago consulates district, but I wanted to go through the one in Houston to visit my Grandfather before I left, and they said no way/no how. When I inquired about doing it over the phone, same response. 300 bucks worth of plane ticket and a day wasted, i spent my 5 minutes in the office in Chicago.
I've got a few friends here that lived pretty far from their consulate's (Atlanta and L.A.) and Atlanta let them do it on the phone, and L.A. was like Chicago, everything by the book.
So, good luck buddy! |

i've never gotten a visa from my home consulate. i tend to bounce around, and most often get them from the east coast. from what i can tell, IF you bring it up that you're from a different state, there's more of a chance for them to deny you. i don't let them know what state i'm from (all you need is your passport) and i haven't had any problems yet (crossing my fingers). i got my first visa from NYC and the second/third visas from ATL. i'm a texas state resident. |

I'm in the same boat. My interview is on the 17th in Atlanta. Best thing to do is just wait it out and enjoy the nice warm weather and fresh air while you have it. Enjoy being with your family for the holidays for one more little week. |

Why do you have an interview at the consulate? Have you not had an E-2 visa to work here before? |
