I know I'm just a silly foreigner and there's no need to plan ahead and everything, but isn't it about the time of year for the big one day GEPIK get together thing? Anyone know if there is going to be one soon? |

In Korea, hardly anything is planned out in time, and even when it is, usually the foreigners are the last to know. I didn't know about the meeting at Everland last December until the day before, so I doubt GEPIK has even sent a notice out. |

This year, it seems, we will be required to go to our local education offices next week for a day of kimchi making, hanbok wearing etc. |

There are workshop dates posted on the GEPIK website for Dec 17th and 18th depending on what level you teach. |

Well this news makes my day a little better!
Apparently my coteacher didn't know about this. Are they required to let us go or, is it a choice on the part of the school? |

I was told it's mandatory - HS and MS on the 17th, Elementary on the 18th. It's at Dankook University, near Jukjeon station in Bundang. It's a follow up to orientation, so if you haven't been to an orientation, or you've already been to a 'follow-up workshop' as they are calling it, then I think you'll be ineligible.
I don't mind going as I live nearby, but for those of you who don't want to come because you live far away...well I'd keep quiet about it...chances are your school won't open the invitation until after it's happened. |

I can't see what you mean on the site, and I have received a piece of paper that says it is all going on at the local hicksville town-office on the 17th, though I'm elementary. Maybe it depends on location, but I'd rather get out of here for a day to be honest. |

That's strange. Maybe I'm supposed to go to both my local and also the province-wide event in Bundang and become a regular folklore expert. |

Use this as an opportunity to have currently unanswered questions answered. People say they have trouble contacting GEPIK; well, this is the perfect opportunity. |
