I teach at 2 public schools.
The first is having a 5 day winter camp in January (9am - 12pm).
The second is having 5 day winter camp in February. My co - teacher wants me to teach 8 lessons a day for that week. (9am - 5pm)
On top of prep work, that adds up to a shitload of unpaid work. I have a few ideas about what i am going to say to her about it - but what do you think? What would YOU do?

Suck your teeth and say, "Oh very difficult". That's what I do anyway. Gets me out of all sorts of things.

what should you do? why do you need to ask?

At least yours is only 2 weeks. I have to teach 3 consecutive weeks..9-3 every day. It's a lot more than my 22 hours per wek, so off course I asked for ot.

Also, I'm not planning anything. I gave some ideas..but that's about it.

I'd tell the co-teacher I won't do 'overtime'.

You're right. You need a long chat with your school about how you will pay back the salary you will owe them after you are paid for the whole of January and February but will only have worked 10 days (15 days if you include prep time).

The Korean staff may get paid leave but there is nothing in the usual Public School/EPIK/GEPIK contract that allows for paid leave. If they only make you work 10 days over two months, stop grumbling about it, FFS.

if it's more than 22 hours/wk it's overtime and you can say no. (we all know of that little clause in the contract that sounds like mandatory OT, but seriously, how often does a school know enough of the contract to know it's there?). just say no thanks to the OT, that's it

I would say "that's 20,000 Won overtime per class." They would try BS but the contract says OT for work outside normal hours and vacation is definitely OUTSIDE normal work hours.

Talk to a lawyer. There is a free consulation session on Monday's 2-5 pm. Seocho stop, exit (8 I think, somebody please double check, it's on a Dave's thread too). Go out the exit, which is almost to the immediate left about 10-15 ft., then go down that left turn about 30 meters. You come to a T-junction where you can go straight or right. Go to the building on the right. It says "Seoul Bar Association" on the window. Go to the room on the left (you will see a couple people sitting outside the room at a desK).

You are being scammed like so many other teachers.
