Is gov't oversight of the industry enough of a string attached? Shouldn't CEO et al heads roll? Aren't industries going to continue on with risky, irresponsible, short-sighted business practices if they know that their good ol' Uncle Sam will swoop in and save them? How do we make sure other potentially troubled industries get the message that a bailout is the LAST thing they want? |

We wouldn't buy their crappy cars so they're taking our money anyways. |

Likely? More like inevitable (although Chrysler may end up on the chopping block). |

Some of the government intervention is pretty scary. Dictating what product they must develop, what products they must kill off, without any more market research than the assumption that American consumers want X.
When the economy was good, Americans wanted the cars the big three were making. They were making them and not small cars because those were the kind of cars they could make in North America at a profit. They can't make small cars in North America at a profit.
Frankly, I don't want a plug in. I do want a 3 cyc 1.0l, five on the floor hatchback. But I don't want to pay $17,000 for it. I want to pay $9999 cash. |
