|
|
I'm sure many of you saw this coming a mile away. Months ago I predicted--as did many moderate and conservative pundits on this board and in the media--that the Left would quickly grow disillusioned with Obama after the campaign dust settled and his list of nominees for high office had been made.

Personally, I take this as welcome news. Anyone who's read his two memoirs should know he's more moderate than many in the blogosphere and mainstream media make him out to be. We have his White grandparents to thank for that. And his mother, although much more liberal, was by all accounts an idealist who acted with fairness and good judgment, except in choosing to marry an irresponsible man, but that's another story.
So when do you think the Far Left will write his epitaph?
And more intriguingly, when do you suppose liberals will begin to jump off Obama's bandwagon too? |

I think what we have seen is that the far left will always vote Dem and the far right will always vote Rep.
The results is usually in the middle somewhere such as the Neo Con agenda we got with Bush.
With Obama we will see something in the middle as well however I believe at the very least the Neo Con agenda will be extinct.
The Cabinet is fairly left of center but at least a smidgen.
I expect Wesley Clark will be called in at some point between the Iraq withdrawal and the run up the Afghan surge.
It's upto Hillary to ensure that we get the International Community on board for the Afghan surge and it will involve Pakistan. |

This is like the 3rd 'i told u' thread in the last couple of days on this same topic.
HOWEVER, I don't get the conservative pundits were saying that Obama wasn't liberal? What conservative sources were you reading?
I knew MODERATES were in love with Obama, and LIBERALS had their concerns, but CONSERVATIVES were freaking out. |

It's pretty funny when there are more "I told you so" threads than ones by liberals actually saying they are disappointed with Obama. |

They still are. More than ever.
They have had their whole 'philosophy' rejected and have had to go along with FDR-like bail-outs in order to try to save the country. They only paid lip-service to the idea of small government anyway. They only paid lip service to the idea of small military, too.
The key point is that Conservatives have absolutely no alternatives to offer. They had a point when they thought (but did absolutely nothing about) a hundred billion dollar deficit was a problem. Now they are voting for trillion dollar deficits.
Question: Do you know any liberals who are complaining about Obama's appointees? I don't. It's kind of amusing to see the articles making this claim and quoting someone you've never heard of as the voice of liberalism. |

Some people are clearly talking out their backends with the "I told you so" 2nd grade threads.
I HAVE read both of Obama's books (I'm just finishing the "Dreams") and actually agree with you. If you listened carefully to what he said, he is more moderate that people think he is. The "Obama's a liberal and the world will coming crashing down if he is elected" theme didn't go over very well in the election and that's why McCain/Palin lost badly.
Yes, there are people who are freaking out. I'm sure you can go on to any of the liberal blogs and find post with people complaining about one or more of Obama's appointments. Those who think he's going to push through a far left liberal agenda are sadly mistaken. |

ManintheMiddle: as Tiger Beer rightly points out, you are stealing my "I-told-you-so!" thunder, bruddah...

Willfully obtuse.
See John Brennan's case. |

Here's a nice article on this subject:
Obama and the Liberals
Well, they didn't call me, and you can place me well outside the magic circle. I'm not nervous or flat-out angry or even concerned. I'm excited. And by the way, the vast majority of the people I know are excited, too.
Obama is still seven weeks away from taking office but has already signaled that he's going to do grand things, huge things dare I say heretofore unimaginable things.

From the editorial Ya-ta Boy linked:
Quote: |
But he's.....apparently planning to go to Cairo (probably) to give a speech on America's new relationship to the world a move, again, that I can't conceive of any president of my lifetime having the guts to consider making in his first hundred days. |
Obama has said that he's planning on giving such a speech? If so, that should be VERY interesting (and likely very historic, given Obama's ability to lay down the oratory). |

I've come across one other reference to this but can't remember where. That reference didn't say any more than this one did. I'd like to know more. An African-American president in Africa, in the heart of the Arab World... Given his skill at oratory, it could be a humdinger.
More about Obama and Liberals...One reason Liberals are not upset is because they have the most important representative of all 'in the Cabinet'--Obama himself. He said all during the campaign he wanted to hear other views. His appointments so far says he is following up on that idea. Politics is famously defined as the art of compromise. It looks to me like Obama is positioning himself to demonstrate his skill at politics/compromise. IOW, a change from recent politics. |

I am talking about the Far Left, not the liberals. But I won't be surprised if they too drop off the bandwagon, only farther down the road.

You mean "unsubstantiated," don't you?

This is precisely the case. Genuine thanks for playing.
Obama is very comfortable in his own skin, literally and figuratively. Unlike Bush, he doesn't have a father image to look up to, either. And whenever he got a big head, his White grandmother brought him back down to earth.
This is one president I'm going to enjoy watching in action. |

I don't think Communists or even Socialists seriously expected Obama to carry their agenda, even if they supported him. |
