Hi,
Im looking to buy a PMP as a gift.

Nothing too expensive though like over 350 000 won

wi fi would be preferable and some internet capabilities, and also an sd card slot or some type of memory slot.

i was thinking of a PSP but dont knwo much about them.
The screen size is good but i heard some bad things abotu the screens

ideally it should play straight divx and mp3 formats...and as little converting as possible

Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks

I would say iPod Touch. Ticks some of your boxes. No mem card and crap file format. But greatest screen ever. And the wifi is great too. I have a PSP and thy can get burned pixels but I think it's hard to notice. I havnt used mine in ages cos the power cord broke. Could never get it to go on the interwebs either.

ipod gets on easy. Just my 10 won.

I'm also in the market for a new PMP (Christmas gift for gf) and the iRiver SPINN looks hot! Portable and the screen size seems decent. Only negative is that the biggest one is 8GB.

Also, looking at the IPOD Touch though. Does anyone know if this can do DMB?

Oh that is really good! Would you mind explaining how you can do that on an Ipod?

Maybe he was being 'smart' referencing the over rated jam band from the 90's?

If not, I'd be interested in knowing as well.

The deal breaker for me is if I have to convert all my audio and video before my PMP will play it. I think that would suck. So things like the iTouch are out.

In Korea, if you want to just drag and drop files into your PMP with no annoying conversion or proprietary software then you're looking at Cowon or iStation.

I've had an iStation V43 for almost 4 years now. It's awesome kit and is wonderfully easy to use. Plugs straight into any Windows PC. No software or conversion needed.

The recent models have high-speed internet, DMB, and ability to play all the common file-types for audio/video. The new Cowons can even play MKV files!!

V43 is sweet. I've had mine for 3 years or so now. Same screen as the PSP, but no burned pixels as of yet. Touch screen interface, USB host, GPS navigation, DMB, 30GB hard drive, and 8-14hrs battery life. Works with Mac as well. I think some of the newer ones also support WiFi, but not sure.

I have an MPIO V10 which is nice, no WiFi or online access but 8GB, SD slot upto 16GB allowed, no conversions needed and will play nearly all video and audio formatsplus images. Ebooks, dictionary and a few other handy tools. Not bad for around 220,000 a few months ago. There are better, bigger versions by MPIO, Cowon, and others.

If I was to pick a new PMP today it would probably be the Cowon O2 Standard. From 249,000-359,000.

Or the iStation Netforce 2 if you want internet.....274,000.

i've been looking at the iriver p10 and the mintpass mintpad but i'm not sure as to whether they can change their menus to english and whether they'd work at all with my mac. :/

that said, the mintpass is really cool. wifi + touchscreen + twitter-like service + handwritten instant messages.

Next week, the cowon S9 comes out. It looks pretty sweet from pictures online. It resembles an itouch. I'm debating between the Cowon 02, Cowon S9, and an itouch......
