So I read some posts here about people who didn't qualify for the tax/gas rebate because they earn over 36,000,000 won. Also people were saying the deadline was in October.

I found out that for contracted employees the amount was 24,000,000 and for employees the amount was 36,000,000 won. Furthermore, it was NOT 24,000,000 or 36,000,000 gross salary. It was calculated based on taxable income. So, while I earned over 36,000,000 my taxable income was well under 24,000,000 won. I also got a few tax breaks because of my son and wife. A teacher who was earning roughly 2.5 mil had a taxable income of 14 mil. I think your taxable income is 47% of your earnings.

Also, the deadline was end of November. I know it does no one any good today, being December 1st, but someone I spoke to at the Tax office led me to believe that you could include this tax break when you are filing your taxes next year. I know this, because a teacher who came with me, hadn't worked enough of 2007 to apply for it, but was told he could get it next May.

I got it, but someone else I know was told no, but that he would get it when he files his tax return in May, 2009.

Interesting. Wife and I combined income is over 100 million won, but she was told we'd get it back. I told her to drop it, but she's going for it.

Yeah, I didn't get the tax rebate either because my previous school didn't bother to file my taxes last year.

Maybe I can get the rebate next year.

Same here, Sojusucks. It was a hagwon. That's all they screwed me on so it's not as bad as it could had been. If the give this money next year and I'm here, I won't get it either since I'm tax exempt this year.

I love how in the OP, which was telling most teachers about the rebate for the first time, people were saying "oh yeah, I did that a few weeks ago." Didn't bother to tell anyone about it, though. Rolling Eyes
