This is bull.

The icing on the cake .

The cherry of money-grubbing airlines.

I have just been informed that my infant will not be able to fly for free.

571.00 roundtrip to the States????

WTF?? Evil or Very Mad

I thought that babies under two fly free seeing that they can sit in your lap??!!

It depends on the airline. A lot of foreign airlines don't charge for lap babies but I know most U.S. based ones do. With that said, $500+ looks steep for a baby under 2 unless you're sitting in first or business class. For example, on United Airlines, the lap charge is 10% of the ticket. Under that scenario, the ticket would be more than $5,000. I would either check again or with a different airline.

It's not fair to make them pay for a whole ticket. However, dont you think they should charge at least something for a baby? For one thing, they are likely to disturb all the passegners around them with their crying; especially on a long flight. Especially the passengers sitting on either side. They could, therefore, lower the airfares of the other passengers and add a little bit to the fare of the person with the baby. That seems reasonable. I'm not a baby hater, but looking at it from the perspective of an airline that aims to serve all customers in the best way possible, it makes sense to do that. And yes, if one airline is charging a full ticket fare for babies, it will 1) cause you to choose another airline 2) cause me and alot of other people who dont like hearing a screaming baby for 12 hours to choose that airline.

I remember on one flight, it wasn't a baby but a 3 or 4 year old. The little child was feeling nauseous so the parent's brilliant idea was "Here, drink some milk."

10 munutes later, the child puked all over the seat and floor. There were 2 flight attendants busy cleaning up the puke. The smell was rancid. The guy sitting next to me leans over and says, "Time for these stewardresses to earn their paycheck."

Are you completely out to lunch?
No airline does that. Its a money grab plain and simple. They do nothing to compensate other passengers, its not like they hand out free drinks or shit.

Babies on flights suck... (just like fat people)...

10% is not enough.. I think 50% for babies is better.

I don't know why others think there needs are more important than everyone else's.. maybe you HAVE been in Korea too long

During one flight for me it was a morbidly obese middle age woman taking up half of my seat as well as hers. *shudder*

It totally depends on the airline. I just purchased flights for a visit... you got lucky, the majority of airlines make you purchase a seat for your child for an international flight (which I think makes sense). It is an exorbitant amount, but they're going to milk it for every dollar they can get. I can't imagine holding my son for the entire flight and I want him secured in a seat for takeoff and landing and in case of turbulence. I'm sure I'll end up holding him for the majority of it, but I like knowing I have a carseat.

i'm all for airlines imposing fares for babies, because as we all know, although babies are technically supposed to be on the parent's lap, they often squirm and move about, cough up or throw up on other people, or make a lot of noise and disturb other passengers. airlines know this and know most people dread sitting next to a person with a baby on an airplane.

i can't even count how many times i've had a bad flight on account of a baby or a child. i've even had a baby start crawling over me at one point (parent was asleep). if this reduces the number of babies flying, good.

The real question the OP should be asking is..."How stupid can I be?" Do you really want a baby on your lap for 15 hours or so? It's not fun at all for even a short hop of an hour or so. 15 hours? You're freakin' stupid if you want to have your baby on your lap.

For reference, lap fares were shown at 10% of fare on most US airlines when I looked. If you want a seat, it's 75% of the fare for most airlines.

I hate to generalize about children, because I wish I had a kid. HOWEVER, parents...especially KOREAN parents on flights who cannot and will not control their children SUCK large penises. That is all.

A lot better off! I have had some miserable flights with screaming kids. One was from San Fran to Seoul. I swear this kid must have had a megaphone and the parents weren't doing anything to stop it. Attention parents: although you may find everything your little angel does to be funny and cute, the REST OF HUMANITY DOESN'T!!!!!!!

Speaking of fat people, I sat between two 300 pounders on a middle seat on Southwest from New Orleans to LA. I felt like I was in the middle of a giant, sweaty ass crack.

I'm continually amazed how some seemingly educated people complain about babies on flights. It's inevitable, like traffic jams at rush-hour. Deal with it... some people are bitching whiny children, worse than most of the babies on these flights. "Woe is me, I have to sit near a baby on a 12-hour flight... boohoo..." Rolling Eyes Grow up.
