hahaha...My kindy kids, as much as they are cute, keep whining and comparing stickers with each other. One girl went home today and whined to her Mom that another girl got a prettier/better sticker than she did. One of the Koreans told me she almost got into a screaming match with this girl's Mom. We boith agreed it was ridiculous, and these kids have complained many times in the past...so now, we decided no more stickers. I mean, these kids have parents with way more money than I will ever have. They can get their Moms and Dads to buy them stickers. I have been using my own money to do this as a nice gesture/favor to the kids...As of today, that is done. That's also another reason I am done with hagwons after this year is finished. Back in May, I even had one girl cry like crazy, like someone tried to kill her or something, over a tiny freaking sticker. Insane! Rolling Eyes

I found Kindy to be an interesting experience for me. I def. learned a lot about childhood development and conditioning from those "little people."

The stickers were a huge one with them, like you said, always comparing and freaking out over any advantage a classmate had over them. There was absolutely NO reasoning with them, which was my biggest mistake in even trying.

Funny how they can scream bloody murder and cry about something, marking you as enemy number one, but the next day is all hugs and laughing with you.

Good plan though: No more stickers. Just wait till the parents start calling about that.

Sometimes I wonder if stickers are worth the whining, too. They're a long-standing institution at my hagwon, which teaches preschool to middle school.

As a new teacher with a lot of problems, I like that some students are actually much more manageble via the stickers. However, I have a lot of really annoying, mostly older students who are always whining about stickers, wanting more, etc, and it's really, really, really annoying. I mean... really annoying.

Actually, our school uses signatures in books instead of stickers, but we call them "stickers". They're redeemable for prizes. We had too many problems with stickers. The older kids would steal stickers from the kindergarten wall charts, which had stickers on them.

I don't know, though, if I would be into buying my own prizes...

I wonder how I would do in kindy. On the one hand I like babysitting the little ones. On the other, I've only ever done four at a time and I didn't have to actually TEACH them anything, just keep them from killing/injuring each other and making too big of a mess. I'm also not that expressive in general, not that it's seemed to matter to kids I've cared for before.

Kindies have really horrible shifts too, I've seen nine or ten hour long shifts because you have to do elementary after.

Seen this as well; however, those teachers were making in upwards of 3.0 Mil a month. They begin at 8:30 am and are home by 5pm.

Wrong. They usually begin at 9 and go home at 6 or 7 and make only 2.0 per month. It comes up to about 1.7 after deductions. 1.65 after you buy stickers, pencils, paper, and things. I used to teach in one of said hagwons last year and it was exhausting and quite stressful at 30 class hours a week with each being a unique class where you don't repeat lesson plans. Not only was the teaching hectic, the director was always sure to keep you in a state of uncertainty with guilt trips. Never again for me while others take these kind of jobs and actually resign for a year or two extra!

OP, that's how kindy act. They have to be treated equal and do the same things together, preferably hands on activities as just talking to them doesn't work.

Sorry dude, may be some crappy jobs you have run across. If you are looking for a job like this, and get paid right, PM me.

Seriously, 2 Mil a month? I would laugh myself out the door on that interview.

Can you call that girl and her mom out?

"Class, there will be no more stickers." (Class screams and cries) "Do you know why?" (Class become quiet, tears in their eyes) "Because Yoon-Jeong and her mother got me in trouble. I'm also canceling Hangman and Bingo." (Yoon-Jeong assaulted at lunch by a pack of angry kindergarten girls)

Before we started our sticker system, my husband would give a small candy to the kindy that earned the most points in the week. One week he forgot to buy some more candy and had run out. Our boss came to him later in the day (a few hours after a kindy class that was supposed to get candy) to say a mom had called, highly p-o'ed because her little angel had come home upset because Teacher didn't give him the candy he deserved. Nearly caused an incident, until he explained that he would give it in the next class, he had simply forgotten. The mother accompanied her son into class the next day to make sure he got his candy. So ridiculous, it was only those little hard candies you buy at E-mart for 5,000won for a huge bag and this woman went ballistic. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with it, I have much less patience.

Korea is the country of protest.
Monkey see monkey do, they start young.
There will always be a 'sticker' to complain about.
