if you've taken the subway you've probably seen the advertisement with the magic door and the wheel chair. I'm always puzzled over this one.
For those who don't know the ad runs something like this:
Big basketball player comes and the door magically resizes for him.
a little girl with a suitcase comes and the door shrinks for her (and becomes cute) and then widens to allow her suitcase
pregnant lady comes and the door turns in to an automatic door and opens for her.
This is where it loses me.
A dude in a wheel chair shows up and the magical door seems unable to accommodate him. It tries all 3 of its previous shapes and then looks sad. then he looks sad. Then everybody on the subway cries. Finally it settles on the tall narrow door. Then the previous 3 people show up and wipe the door away to help the wheel chair guy.
1)Who is this wheel chair guy that an automatic sliding door isn't good enough for him?
2)Who built this magic door with 3 such different and apparently inadequate shapes?
3)Can I get one at emart?
My favourite PSA is the one where they encourage you to wrestle the guy to the ground who is going to light the bottle of water on fire. |

wow I'd like to see that - no more tv and don't plan to get one - but it sounds pretty cool -
uh - what's the message btw?? I'm not sure I understood it - and haven't seen many b-ball chaps on the subway either |

I get choked up whenever I see the AIDS one.
The door one doesn't make sense. Maybe it's about how it would be really hard to mind the gap in a wheelchair. You'd basically need someone to ride the subway with you and lift you onto the train. |

This reminds me of the saddest thing I've ever seen in my whole life, which was a man in a wheelchair in the subway station waiting at the top of the stairs while the little lift thing was slowly rising upward and that chirpy little tune was playing. Does it have to sing? |

you don't need a TV. these play on the TVs in the subway. I usually see it on the newer trains on line #2.

I think its about helping disabled people, but I'm not sure why he can't navigate the automatic door.

I think its a warning sound to alert people that its moving, but a beep would be better.. |
