|
|
I'm looking for a Korean language comic book/graphic novel, preferably a series, which is not too difficult, but not a kids book.
I read my students' Maple Story ones, and have borrowed some others, but they all bore me too much too keep studying them.
Does anyone know of anything?
Cheers. |

You just need one in the Korean language, not necessarily written by a K author, right?
Well what kind of genre you looking for?
If you want to study Hanja, then 마법천자문.. (this is a joke)
uhm, street/school fighting stuff= 크로우즈, 짱
School, growing up= 반항하지마! (GTO- Great Teacher Onizuka)
Fantasy stuff (dragons/magic and all that melarchy)=제로의사역마
Swordplay, comic= SKT (Swallow Knights Tales)
Monsters, etc "판타지"= 쿄우, 나루토, 블리치, 원피스, 데스노트
Then the schoolgirl stuff (the genre is called '순정만화')= 오란고교호스트부, 엽기인걸스나코, 꽃보다남자, 스킵비트, 딸기100퍼(decent drawings), W Juliet
It's past 2AM so I cant really remember too much stuff. I'm also not sure if i've got the titles right but I can't be bothered to search every single title.. PM me if you have trouble searching, i guess?
Or go to the closest 만화(책)방 near you and ask for recommendations |

Dragonball if you're familiar with it. If you know the story, it won't be too hard to comprehend. I personally liked SlamDunk, another old Japanese comic book translated into Korean. You might also want to check out 'Kid Gang.' It's funny as hell (from a Korean's standpoint anyway). You can go to Daum or Naver and read tons of comics for like $2 per day. Maybe that's why it's hard to see Manhwa(comics) Bangs anymore. |

Thanks a lot!
I asked for recommendations at my local DVD shop and ended up with one about a motorcycle gang that was pretty good.
I actually would prefer something by a Korean author - the Japanese stuff doesn't appeal to me so much. |

There is also Palace Story (Goong - no Korean on my keyboard). The artwork is very unique (gothic waif, anyone?) in the series. It was made into a live-action K-drama about two years ago- it wasn't half bad, sort of an anti-Cinderella story. The two lead are actually solid actors.
Korean comics are called "manhwa," by the way. |

Korea Unmasked comes in both the Korean language and English. Also, there is a series of comic books, Romance of the Three Kingdoms that are side-by-side Korean/English. |

On the front of the naver search page, there are some links to some free Korean comic strips that are updated every week. There's different comic strips so you won't get bored, and it's not too difficult for Korean learners. |
