I was inspired by the smoking ban post. I really started to think about the prospect of vacationing in Seoul... or lets just make it Korea in general. So my question for all of you is, why on Earth would anyone vacation in Korea? What could you see, what could you do etc. Personally, I think it's a cultural, social and architectural nightmare here. So thoughts please, what could your average Western vacationer do?

OR: if you tend to think like me about SK's vacation prospects, how could you reform the tourist industry here. How could you make Seoul into the wonderful Asian hub, cutural zenith, and attractive city that it claims to be? I would personally start with proper garbage removal at regular intervals and a few trash cans here and there.

Culturally you can't change it fast enough. There will be resentment to foreigners for many many many years to come.

Architecturally I think Seoul is doing better. Making it illegal to build plain cement buildings is a good start.

For a normal tourist I would think Seoul is a good place to start. Get to see the sites and all. Jeju is probably the best prospect. With the beaches and volcano tubes, Hallasan etc.... Busan is ok if your into the port aspect.
