I'm a Canadian on my first E2 and I'm trying to sort out whether or not I will have to do a visa run, as this will factor into my negotiations. A lot of the information I've come across on this board is ambiguous (which I realize has a lot to do with Korean Immigration's inability to make clear rules that everyone can understand).
I started in early April 2008, shortly after the mid-March rule changes. I will be finishing my contract, and then will either re-sign with my current hagwon, or start a new job. Regardless of what I decide, I will be taking a short break (a week or two) in between contracts.
Option 1) Re-sign with current hagwon
Option 2) Start a new job with a different hagwon or a public school

I'm curious if I will have to leave the country under either of those options.

You have to leave the country by midnight on the LAST day of your visa. Check your Alien Registration Card (ARC) and see what the last day is.

For option number one you don't have to leave the country...you simply go down to Immigration with your boss and extend the contract (bear in mind that you WILL have to re-submit all your documents again (including a new Criminal check and VSS ,even if you never left the country)

For option number two you will have to leave the country and obtain a new visa (and again will have to re-submit said documents)
