I was interested in studying Korean at uni in the mornings, but I've since decided I probably can't do that and hold down a teaching job at the same time.

SO I've decided I will have to go it alone and try to find motivation from somewhere.

I've been studying the Sogang books and I just finished Sogang 1A.

THere are 6 books in this series 1A and B, 2A and B, 3A and B.

How much time in the uni course does it take to get through each of these books? And which level would you be regarded to be at after completing each book? DO all 6 books represent the year course?

No, each book is covered in a quarter, so three months. That means that you can finish level 4 in 1 year, and through level six in a year and a half.

No, each book is covered in five weeks. 1A and 1B are both completed in one ten-week course.

I don't know about Sogang, but I know SNU's books are meant to be used with a teacher. A lot of the explanation comes from the teacher and not nearly as effective for self study. It might be the same with Sogang, but you would have to ask a person who's attended Sogang.

The Sogang books are similar to the SNU books in that sense. I am sure you can learn from them, but a lot of the material is designed for group role play and such. Sogang places a pretty heavy emphasis on conversation compared to SNU so your missing out on the bulk of the training by studying the books in isolation. However, its better then nothing and I cant really think of many better options for solo studying. The other poster is correct- both 1A and 1B etc. are completed in one intensive three month course.
