How do these sites work? How are they different from the one I use for movies, torrentz.com, which does not require a password?

So my account was banned from what.cd....
I've learned a few lessons from my errors. 1. Dont use the same name on the site as you do on public forums... 2. Dont offer invites in public forums on the board...
So I will take my experience as a positive one and not make the same mistake again. If anyone has any spare invite to some sites they could share could you PM me please. Thanks!

Perhaps I should have mentioned this when you started the thread. Most privates sites do not like to have their invites traded on public forums and most wizened torrenters won't trade on them either.

Try sites like the demonoid forums. They are registration only but easy enough to enter. There are forums for invite swapping/giving but it will pay to gave a decent ratio at Demonoid, the tracker.

1) They are closed to the public and you must register to download the torrents
2) They all track share ratio and there are minimum ratios to keep or ban. Thus you usually get faster download speeds than public trackers. Torrents also have much longer longevity, very useful if you're after something old.
3) Some specialize in certain areas such as music, games, tv, educational, particular sports or movies. Others are generic and have a wide variety of downloads. Others specialize in "scene releases". Google if you don't know what that means.
4) Some have unique rules regarding who can upload and what can be uploaded.
5) In some ways, they are safer than public sites as it less likely that the RIAA etc will find your IP.

As soon as I saw your post mentioning what.cd I thought to myself, "Self, this guy wont last long on what.cd".

To the OP, I would have a go at getting onto waffles, though from what I hear, it isnt as good as what.cd.

For those of you wanting what.cd invites, you should go to their irc channel, they have an interview process for getting on.

Why should you do this?

Well, nearly 200,000 albums (322,000 torrents), tons of apps, all very well seeded.

If you get to poweruser, as the op must have been to be offering invites, you get access to the PU forum where lots of staff from other invite only trackers offer invites. They only do this in the PU forum as if you are there you have shown that you know at least something about torrenting, and are not a newb.

So, I am wondering why the op was out there in the world asking for invites?

h
