yesterday in class some of my 6th grade elementary students we were doing a Unit on families, i had asked the students the previous class to bring in pictures of their families and i would bring in pictures of mine.

so class started as normal, kids were getting a kick from showing their pics, then it was my time. I should first say that i have blond hair and blue eyes naturally, as does my mom, but my father is Iranian and has darker skin and clearly looks Arab.

so i show them the pic of my mom and they're all like "so pretty, very beautiful", then i show them the pic of my dad and they all start yelling "TERRORIST!!!!" while making bomb noises etc.

i was very shocked at this, considering these kids are being taught by another foreign teacher who is black and they love him.

there is no real point to my story. just a little shocked. the same kids who go on about the other foreign teacher being very handsome, call my dad a terrorist.

You can use this to your advantage. If they start acting up, just threaten to call your dad Wink

J/k...sorry korean kids can be so insensitive/ignorant, but, well, it's no surprise.

Kids are kids. I have a lot of respect for them because they speak the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

It's also why they annoy me.

I don't think Iranians are Arabs anyway. Just educate the horizontally challenged minded charges in front of you that the Arabic world does not include Iran.

And there is no proof that Iran is a terrorist state! Tell them that if the Koreans decide to send over thick as mince missionaries to Tehran that they won't be getting beheaded anytime soon! Very Happy
