Can anyone tell the way to enter the US stockmarket from here, an easy system whereby I can use my bank account/online banking to purchase, rather than telex or bank check (cheque,) stuff like that?

Ie, how the heck do you do it?

I use sogotrade.com. I'm new to the investing thing, but no complaints so far. Only three dollars a trade. You can transfer funds from your bank account, but you have to fax a bank statement first.

If you're shopping for cheap trades, try zecco.com. Zero commissions on stock trades. If you're looking for a solid online brokerage with lots of resources go for tdameritrade.com or etrade. It's illegal to buy/sell stocks when you're not in america. That said, you'll need a mailing address in the states for the brokerage to send prospectus and acct statements. Although with most online sites, this paperwork can be received via email.

Now is a good time to buy in, everything is on sale. Just make sure it's cash that you're willing to put away for at least couple years. good luck!

I live overseas and use Charles Schwab (www.schwab.com). You must enrol using a US-based address.

There is also www.sharebuilder.com

We have been discussing investing over in the General Asia forum, under a thread about how the recession is affecting those of us in Asia. It might be beneficial to check it out.

I use TDameritrade. I dont have an american address and its all good for me.

you do need to fund your account from your bank though basic wire transfer into their account .. not hard at all... takes a couple days to send all the documents they want and being approved ..
