"Gook" doesn't mean foreigner. "Weigook-in" means foreigner. "Hangook-in" means Korean. |

This was coined during the Korean War. The "Gook" comes from the Korean word "Hangook" which means Korean. The Racial Slur Database also says it could come from when Koreans asked American GI's "Mi Gook" meaning "American?" but they took it to mean, "Me Gook". (i'm a gook) |

Gook refers to "국", which actually means Nation or Country.
외국인 itself doesnt suggest any negative meaning. Even when Korean calls American "미국놈" (Yankee) , it implys different meanings under different situations. "놈" could be a bloke, a guy, a fellow, a chap, or a bimbo.
To my knowledge, "코배기" or "양코배기(양코)" would be the most disgraceful term of foreigners or westerners. |

I always thought the "me gook" explanation was wrong.
Miguk doesn't really sound like "gook" but more like "guk" with 1.5 "U" and from the back of the throat instead of a from the lips "ooo" sound. |
