What is there to do for entertainment and especially to meet new people besides drinking at the bars?
I've been in Korea for about 3 months but have found that the only things to do in Korea is go to a bar if you want to meet new people.
I know there are Noraebangs and Bowling, movies...but those aren't the best for meeting people. They generally require that you know people already.
So what about if you are new to an area?
Suggestions? |

Bookstores? Cafes? Granted you won't be meeting tons of new people but it may be worth a shot.
Or language exchange things. there are a few groups dedicated to that on facebook that seem to have started well. |

That might be an idea...the suwon thing. Woudl be fun atleast. Except I live in the Incheon area.
What did I do back home? I was on a University Campus so there were people you could meet every day, plus in the US..meeting strangers isn't always completely weird..not always atleast. Here it's kinda rude to just talk to some stranger. Atleast that's what I've heard.
Back home I went to the movies, the park, I drove around a lot, road horses, shopped at the mall, etc. But then I lived in Iowa too. Wasn't too much to do all the time.
When I was on campus, the best place to meet people besides the bars would be the Library..but there doesn't seem to be many here. So I'm guessing it'd be better if I found a big bookstore with an english book section.
I've just started to do some language exchanges.
I'm looking to meet both foreigners and koreans. I like a variety |

It would be nice if people would link to clubs and organizations they have joined or know about. Awhile back, I heard of a rock climbing club/gym. I've also heard about a motorcycle club; they go on tours around Korea on the weekends. A couple weeks ago, someone was starting a board game club. A couple months ago, someone was starting a movie making club. Some people have poker nights. Some people go to church to form a social network. It would be nice to have a sticky thread where these links could be posted and updated.
It wouldn't hurt if different members started different clubs. Some would take off, some wouldn't. OP, what kind of club would you like like to join? |

http://www.meetup.com/ is a good site with plenty of groups in Korea for any interest you might have. I've only gone to the Seoul Village meetups a couple times, and that was really fun. It's just a group of people who get together once a month to meet others. There's a mix of Koreans and foreigners....I made a couple new friends and had a great time. |

There's pro basketball and volleyball.
I've been to baseball games as well.
There's a bowling alley near my house and batting cages.
Plenty of tennis courts. |

It's most definitely not rude to go up to complete strangers and strike up a conversation in SK.
Go to a Korean bar and you're bound to have some Koreans come up to you if you're a foreigner.
Sure some of them will come up to you for the sole reason that you are a foreigner, but the other half will approach cause they are genuinely interested.
Not sure about the expat bars, since I've never been. |

Ski hills. Check them out. I get talked too all the time there. It helps too if you kinda suck because you can get advice from people. You can also share a lift with them.
Beaches in the summer, ski hills in the winter. Check them out. |

Invest in a big bright HD monitor to sit in front of each night after blasting your body for an hour and a half in the gym. You can download and watch high definition movies and HDTV shows recorded in the states on HDTV channels using your PC. Wow, these monitors and other electronics are what Korea does right. Just don't forget to take some time to get a little exercise while enjoying your virtual reality. |

I meet people at my university, on the street, or clubs and organizations that I belong to. Same formula as back home.
One of the girls I've been dating met me on the bus. Proof that if you just speak to people you can make lots of friends or meet girls. |
