I recently got a new 24" HDTV computer monitor off of Gmarket that surprised me with it's extra warmth and chemical smell. You can only smell it when you get really close, but I hope she doesn't melt out of her flimsy plastic covering or prematurly quit working. Not sure about the warranty and return policies in Korea.

I've never noticed screens to run hot like this, but this one is really bright and high definition.

It's this LG Phillips 24 inch

Of course, it's all the same technology when it comes to Korean/Chinese made HD monitors.

My 22" never gets warm let alone hot, but it's a topsync (brand-name) and has a good design w/ a well vented rear...sturdy construction as well.

Interesting that Jeff.

I seem to remember another poster on here talking about his sturdy Topsync monitor. I think he overpayed on it though.

He was always raving about Zalman PSU's as well.

Can't for the life of me remember his name.

Hmmm, me neither. I have a Zalman (600w) as well...psu's are the backbone of ur rig, should never be skimped upon, IMO.

I would say my 22'' Viewsonic runs pretty warm.....but not really hot.

I got up close to some 50'' HDTV's in Homeplus a while ago and could feel quite a strong heatwave coming off them.

The burning smell might be expected from a new monitor as the components literally 'burn in'. Should go away.

Yea, I don't smell it anymore. It's doing fine. It's not hot hot, but it's warm. I touched a large LCD in a doctors office today and it was warm just like my new baby.

Yeah, it's normal for a panel to run hot. I had a Dell 20" that was the same.

People get burned (no pun intended) all the time when they try to inlay a big screen in to their wall and don't think about the excess heat. Fortunately the same people who try to do that project also tend to have enough money to replace a burnt out TV...

Yep, they don't run cool like laptop screens do nor are they as thin. I guess big LCD monitors and HDTV's have more lights inside them as my monitor is bright as the Sun when it shows the Sun and sunsets. I've been watching downloaded HDTV material and I must say it's a sweet picture that looks as real as can be. I couldn't hardly watch a regular TV now like they do at work.

My sister has been running a big 52 inch plasma HDTV hung on her living room wall above the fire place for a couple years now. Yes, you can actually have a Christmas eve fire and not over heat the HDTV, because it's a nicely well built set up. She was told that it must be mounted on the wall instead of sinking it in to line up with the wall due to possible over heating issues. I never noticed it to be hot, but then never touched it or got close to it. I bet it gets hot and uses quite a bit of electricity.

I've got the Samsung 25.6(?) Never noticed it getting hot.
If you do get a chemical smell (like melting plastic?) there might be something wrong.
