This Thread is for all you east coasters that are homesick.
I grew up in Maryland and we had some great places to go; like Camden Yards, Ocean City, DC, and Annapolis. Man, I miss hanging out back home. Well the problem was I liked it too much and never saved like I do in Korea. Housing was ridiculously expensive. I paid 2,200 a month for a townhouse three years ago.
We used to take road trips to AC, Killington, Duck NC, Virginia Tech, New York City, Boston, Philly. I could go for Philly steak sub from Pats or Steves.
The east coast also has some wonderful historical sites like Newport RI, and Salem MA. I would have said Williamsburg, but I found it to be way to over priced.
I miss going to New Hampshire and swimming in Lake Winnipesauke, hiking the Franconia Notch, riding the Cog Railroad to the top of Mount Washington, skiing Cannon Mountain or Wildcat, and seeing a beautiful New England fall. |

This guy was my uncle. He's been dead for a few years, but he was a pioneer up there at Weirs Beach...Winnipesaukee. I'll never forget some of the summers I spent up there (especially in July when the Hells Angels took over the town). He went up there right after the 2nd world war and invested in land - built a supermarket and a bowling alley, then after a few years built a restuarant with a hotel above it.

A visit to Weirs Beach "is never complete without stopping for a chat with George Casana, who operates the Weirs Beach Superette with his wife, Rhea. He first came here in 1937 and, except for five years during the war, he's been here year -round since 1946. He notes it's been a very good summer up to now. 'Ideal weather,' he emphasizes, 'means a whole lot.'"
George "has spent a lot of time in this same spot when the weather was not always as great. 'If the nice weather continues through August,' he muses, 'this is what will really count.' He leases space to a restaurant, Nashville North and he owns the local bowling alley. 'I think everyone is doing very well,' he adds, all except the alleys. But then, it's just too hot to bowl." |
