No music, no nightlife, nothing to do, the highlight of the foreigner scene seems to be Wednesday night pasta dinner downtown. I'm willing to bet that everybody that goes is nicknamed either 'Twitchy' or 'Blinky'. There also seems to be a smokin' baby and childcare syndicate.
Damn
[Mod Edited the title. Sorry, bad taste, not professional]

exactly, time to move out of daejon...
though uni campuses might be worth a shot. Especially during the spring when a lot of schools have their 'festivals' (aka a hell lot of drinking going on in little 1-day or 2-day tents) |

You haven't met Twitchy and Blinky yet?
Twitchy is the guy that looks kind of like this:
And Blinky is the Guy that kinda looks like this: Except he blinks a lot.
You'll definitely know when you meet them because you'll have a devil of a time getting rid of them

Try the Brickhouse, if you haven't already.
It's a foreigner owned joint with solid food and a generally cool crowd.
I guess it depends on whether or not you want to relax vs. dance to poor kipbop until you're drunk enough to like it. |

I was there once. It was dead, but I'll try again.

Daejeon has come a LONG way since I first came here 8 years ago... thought I must say some of the really cool people have left since.
It's not a bad place to LIVE, if you don't need to go out constantly. |

I generally agree, it's a bit of a hole. That said, there was one area that was kind of different... the area near KAIST where all of the men go to play. I've never seen more massages, room salons, bars, etc. in one area before. It was seriously impressive. |

I taught English to a KAIST student back in 1994. He said he'd lived in the Daejeon area for four years for college, yet still couldn't stand the area. And this was a nerd, mind you. |

Funny to see everybody labouring under the delusion that Daejeon is a place where one moves to and lives in according to one's own free will. For it is not. Daejeon is where Karma sends you for the misdeeds you committed in previous lives.
(Note: Replace "Daejeon" with anywhere in the Republic other than the part of Seoul where the Guru lives, and the above statement remains true.)
Also quite good fun watching people piss & moan about the lack of quality foreigner-butt-kissing nightlife in Korea, ca. 2008. I have concluded, after exhaustive research, that yer all a bunch'a needy little shitz who wouldn't've lasting a fkng month here in the good ol' days. (i.e., back when you'd see fewer round-eyes in week in central seoul than you now see in an afternoon on jeju-do) Hell, here or 80% of the planet for that matter. |

Not to mention pre internet. OMFG, how did we ever get along without it?
Actually I think Korea was better pre internet. |

Once again the Guru is right. I lived in Goong-dong back before the Internet...hell's bells, I lived there before pizza cheese. I lived there when finding a 6 pack of Mountain Dew at a black market shop (for W15,000) was the big news of the month in the waygookin community. I lived there pre-Christmas cards.
The first actual Western-style bar didn't open until '95. Before then, all the beer places were the sit down and order an unwanted plate of anju places. Barbaric.
And yes, I did have to walk uphill both ways to school. |

Sounds like alot of people u see in places in the Western USA.. stopping off at some little gas station town in Wyoming or Arizona, Blinky takes your money after you pump the gas, twitchy hands you the slimy piece of soap-covered wood that is attached to the restroom key. |

That's the one! I believe there's also a women's military college there, which I have to admit is a bit of a turn on for me. |
