Why would anyone want to take the subway all that distance? Why not just a regular train?

Cheap.

But after 2.5 hours of smelly ajosshis, vocal salesmen, smelly ajosshis, and no drinks/toilets, I think I will take the train next time.

Also further out east. It will eventually reach Chuncheon. Then you can take the subway and get some chicken kalbi.

Does this make Line 1 the longest subway line in the world. It covers a good chunk of the country at this point.

Who says you have to go the whole distance. You can always just go for 2 or 3 stops.

Although it might count under one of your "smelly ajosshis", don't forget preachers and guys selling dollar store crap. Oh, and those women selling the $10 9 CD set of 1970s MP3s. Oh god.

I clicked on that link, and after I closed it out, up came a barage of pop-ups. Around 200 of them. Seems any Korean site is a threat. Have to check how many viruses I got now.

The news paper collectors I didn't mind as they were performing something of a service. Could you imagine the subways if old poor people weren't cleaning them? If you can't imagine, come to Toronto. You should see the subways here in Toronto. Moving trash cans.

The beggers of course are a symptom of there being no social services:

All its all a symptom of being able to walk between cars. Not a bad thing if you get on at the back and your exit is near the front. But then it also makes it easy for beggers et al to work the cars. It would pretty funny watching Koreans having to run out the exit doors and then run into the next car between stops. Oish. You could imagine them all lining up and fighting to get out in time and into the next car.

Has the TTC subways gotten that bad? Last time I rode them was back in 2000. I was actually pretty impressed at how clean it was. Cleaner than Montreal's system, and Montreal's system is clean too (well at least back in 2000)... the I come to Seoul, city with a metro population of around 20 million, I was just blown away at how it could be cleaner than TO's.
