Pity they don't fly to Korea.
It might still be available if you're using BK as a springboard. Come to Thailand to get a free flight somewhere else; I guess that would sort of negate the point of the give-away. |

| not all flights have free seats so far i've only found a return flight from Phnom Penh for free, fees run 280 baht still thats less than the departure tax in Phnom Penh. Then again from Bangkok to Surat Thani is 700 Baht, cheaper than the train |

How do you take advantage of this? It doesn't let me do anything when I click on links. Does it include return? Is there a limit to how many free flights you can get? This is a really good opportunity for those of us going South after New Years. You could really do some serious hopping around on a real shoestring budget if you plan ahead right now. I ran inquires on flights listed in the free routes, but they still try to charge normal fare.

OK, how do you do it? |

| It's over. Ended yesterday on Friday. I tried Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to get flights, but I think what I was doing wrong is this is to Thailand, not from Thailand to Myanmar and other SE Asia destination. I also tried domestic flights, but there were no free flights in the booking system whatsoever. I think it was a communication to draw attention to Thailand in getting people to consider or reconsider going. |

| Got a free ticket from Singapore to Thailand. It seems they were only available on weekdays. And by Friday, the free ones were almost all gone. |

If I wanted to get my Thailand air fare for at least partially free, I could do it easily. But only if I were going there on vacation and coming back here for a year, at least. Understand that some things in Thailand are very cheap but very expensive here. Some of these things are necessities, such as shampoo, deodorant, et al.
Last year I took an empty suitcase to Thailand and used it to get a 75% reduction on my flight. It has taken me nearly a year to realize the savings, but I knew from the beginning it would take a while, and I knew I'd be here for my contract's duration.
I'm on my final two bottles of Nivea and on my final bottle of shampoo. My haul has lasted me nearly a year, so it all worked out well.
Some examples:
Nivea deodorant--9,000 won here, 60 baht there. (Brought back 14 of the little buggers)
Head & Shoulders--10,000 won here, 240 baht there.
Very Large bottle of Listerine--13,000 won here, 300 baht there.
I kept all my receipts and used those to get a VAT refund at the new airport in BKK.
If I do this again, I'll save even more by using my US bank card to pay for it all. At 1300+ to 1, paying 9,000 won for a bottle of Nivea hurts. |

| I do that as well, everthing in the bathroom is from Thailand and enough to last 6 months. I goo in the winter and summer. Lotion is dirt cheap in Thai as well. We brought Thai staples like pepper powder, and everything needed for cooking Thai from Thai as well...soy sauce, oyster sauce etc etc and even a 6 mo supply of luk shin. |

Jeff, you probably need to take 2 empty suitcases on your trips down there. One could bring back a LOT of ethnic Thai foodstuff doing that. Enjoying Thai food once a week would be a nice break.
My 'problem' now is I'm about out of something. I'm leaving Korea in early March and am not returning until the won recovers. That's two months away, unfortunately. In the meantime I'm not paying 10,000 won for it here when I run out in a week or so, only to have to lug it around when I leave come March. There's no way I'd throw it out. If I pay 10,000 won for a bottle of Head and Shoulders, it had better have gold flakes in it. It had better come with a coupon for a free dinner at Hansot or a free visit to a JimJilBang at the very least.
Finding someone who is leaving now and is selling bathroom necessities would provide me with a stopgap until I myself leave here. Shoulda brought more from Thailand. |
