I know this should be in the technology forum, but that forum isnt checked as often as this one and I am on a rush basis.
I was told a few minutes ago that I would have to instal a prgram onto my computer called 내PC지키미 or My PC Protector. I have never heard of this program and my google searches turned up nothing.
Currently I use my laptop at work and have all the latest security and anti-virus software installed and up to date. I do not use the school computer because its a POS and has probably been around for at least 10 years. I can get more work done and faster on my own computer.
They told me that its some kind of monitoring software, which immediately raised my guard. There is no way that I am allowing them to put anything on my computer that tracks what I do. I asked if it was some kind of anti-virus software and they said no. Apparently it collects information about my internet use and then once a month passes that info along. I definately disagree with any watchdog type of program.
Therefore I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this program and if so if they know theres a way to disable it after they instal it. otherwise I guess I'll be forced to use the schools computer that seems as old as the Korean war. |

it sounds very much like the Ahn labs e-protect garbage the SMOE system tries to get me to install. It is insidious and I had to reformat to get that junk off. Dont let them put it on. |

I wish I had partitioned my harddrive before, then i could just install it on my slave drive and easiely get rid of it then. My main worry is that first off I cant get it off and secondly I dont want them being able to see everything I search on the net when I'm in the comfort of my own home. |

They refuse to let you use your computer unless you install that junk on? |

well its either I install the program or I have to use the computer that the school gave me, which I think is a pentium 1. Honestly the thing takes forever to just load up windows explorer, forget even multi-tasking with it.
I much prefer the laptop as it has all my programs and well its a whole lot faster. |

My school wanted me to put that program on yesterday because there is a virus going around. One of the teachers installed the software and found these "errors" that they demanded I fix.
Teacher: "You don't have a screensaver passoword? You have to make one right now."
Me: "I don't think a screensaver password will protect the computer from a virus."
Teacher: "No, it's really important, you have to make a password now."
Me: "Ok, whatever."
Teacher: "Wow, another big error. You didn't make a password for your login."
Me: "Again, I don't think that will prevent a virus."
After I installed the software and restarted, a few of my drivers stopped working. I quickly did a system restore after she left. |

I had them trying to install V3hanlabkoreanantiviruscrap remotely all last week.
A quick change in the firewall,, uninstall programs, a run through registry, check the startups crap and all is clear on the western front.
An irritated technician who came and asked me why I was stopping it installing. Told him I don't want it.
That was that. |

Ahhhh system restore why didn't I think of that. Now I have only done a system restore once before, but in this case would it completely remove all of this software from my computer? |

If you are using their network you might need to install it for legal reasons. Everything you do on the school's network holds the school responsible. So, if you go and download movies and music and they come after you, the school is actually legally responsible. Also, the whole porn thing too. Can't have teachers looking at porn while at school.
When I wanted to use my own laptop at the school in America, I didn't have to install anything but our network had the filters in place and the network guy had the capability to trace every stroke I made on the keyboard.
Didn't bother me, still used facebook, msn, and perezhilton while at school. |
