On Human Events.com, the 'Headquarters of the Conservative Underground', Pat Buchanan has a nice piece on Republican Senators killing the deal with Detroit called 'The Toyota Republicans'.
"What are Republicans thinking of, pulling the plug, at Christmas, on GM, risking swift death for the greatest manufacturing company in American history, a strategic asset and pillar of the U.S. economy...
Do the Republicans not yet understand how they lost the New Majority coalition that gave them three landslides and five victories in six presidential races from 1968 to 1988? Do they not know why the Reagan Democrats in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan are going home?
The Republican Party gave their jobs away!"
What he doesn't mention is that the next Congress will have even fewer moderate Republicans than this Congress. |

Congress was so willing to give away hundreds of billions, nay trillions, to bankers but is refusing a measly few tens of billions for such a vital industry.
This is a blatant attempt to force autoworkers to accept cuts in pay and benefits as all workers are led in the race to the sweatshop bottom. |

And, who has controlled congress the last two years (and had a lower approval rate the president Bush?)?
