Maybe they could, oh I don't know, keep the subways open later so people could get home w/o driving. I know, stupid f'n idea.

Don't know what the Police traffic patrols are like up in Seoul, but I've never seen a Police car cruising about of an evening down here. Nor have I ever seen a Police car on the expressways etc. Come to think of it, I don't know what the Korean Police actually does do. The crime rate is pretty low, but the number of Road Traffic Offences commited over here is unbelievable. They obviously haven't quite figured out how to maximize the use of their resource yet.

In Incheon, and some rural areas I constantly see spot checks, or what passes for them here. Now, if the cops have enough nads to arrest an older dude and not fear disrespecting him, I'll be impressed.

They do nail people with drunk driving. I've worked at a school where a mid-50's teacher was nailed over the winter vacation. They shifted the guy to a very remote small town in the same province for the new semester. I actually liked the guy, really easy going.

A young male teacher at my school, just got himself into a terrible accident. I don't want to say too much, but there was a hit and run and one person ended up dead. Now one man lies long in the church-yard, this teacher lies long in jail, for what? He couldn't hire a DD? Everyone's really torn up at my school. The guy was 27, the only job he'll be able to get with be selling shit in the market when he gets out in 8 to 10. We're not all angels, he drove me home a couple of nights after some soj, but a gaurantee his example will keep me straight.

In my experience (besides this example that just happened a week ago) there is a ton of drunk driving in this country.

I think it's just the number of spot-checks that are up. Perhaps they're also setting things up in larger operations so that it's more difficult for cops to accept bribes.
