Not sure where to post this but here goes:I have been using Yahoo Voice for over a year to make phone calls from my compouter to my parents phones.
I used to just dial 0011 and their area codes, then their numbers. Now I get an error message.
This is a computer bought in the USA. It was just fixed here. I wrote to Yahoo, and they told me to either set my computer to the USA or dial the country codes. For the life of me I have tried a zillion combinations and can not connect. I keep getting "Invalid number" I am lp.trying to call 3 different area codes, but the most inmportant one is 860. I used to dial 0011 860 and then the number.
I keep on emailing Yahoo and I get the same response, fix your computors country setting or dial the proper country code.
I hope some one can hep.
Thanks in advance.

Calling international from any Voip protocol program usually requires the non-North America (N.A) international dialing numbers which is "00" not "011" like in N.A. Yahoo probably just updated their program so it works like the rest of the world which makes more sense (in other words updated the international exchange code from 011 to 00).

So calling using Yahoo, Skype, Voipbuster etc. you need to call N.A phones like this: 00-1-(aaa)-xxx-xxxx

"00" is the international exchange code
"1" is the North American area code
"aaa" is the regional area code (eg.city or state/province)
"xxx-xxxx" is of course the phone number.

I hope this works

I use skype for skype to skype calls which are free and plus use the camera, but try www.earthcaller.com as it is completely free and you can call computer to any U.S. or Canadian number including cell phones! All you do is make sure you are using the latest Internet Explorer as it uses active x control to dial. Just register (it's free, put fake info if you want) and then you can dial to your heart's content. I've called my 89 year old grandmother and she understands fine so the quality is fine and it is FREE!!!

www.magicjack.com

twenty dollars a year for free calls to the united states and canada. It is computer based, but you cant tell with the quality. I have been using this for 6 months, and havent had to pay for a single call either incoming or outgoing. You get a local phone number so your friends and family can call you for free too. check it out, its pretty sweet!

I have seen commercials for the magicjack and they say "good in the USA and Canada. I also went to the link and it said good in the USA and Canada.
internjim, are you in Korea?
By the way, I am able to make calls now. I was on the phone with yahoo live help, and they guided me through a zillion (well, a lot) of steps, and I can make calls now. I was behind a firewall.

A nice discount way to call without a card is to dial 00321 plus area code and number. It works great for me to call to Germany and Canada when I am not around skype.

example: To call Nova Scotia I would dial 00321 1 902 443 4321

Works pretty well and the prices are like local calls.

If you call 1500 on KTF

You can hear a list of phone numbers in one of the menu choices for calling overseas.

It mentions that some go through the internet as well

00 1 - KT

00 2 - something I missed - ?Dacom?

00 8 - something I missed - ?Oonsay?

00321 - Internet

00780 - Internet

00755 - Internet

Just done some digging.
