|
|
I remember Tiger Beer writing that Mongolians look like Koreans. I had a Chinese girl tell me that they can tell if a person is Japanese, Chinese or Korean simply by looking at the eyes. I've heard that Koreans have thicker hair. The Chinese are said to have firmer breasts.
For the life of me I can see no distinguishing characteristics (I am NOT saying that they all look the same - just that nothing specific stands out).
Can someone please tell me the secret? I too want to have "sight beyond sight" (I know, cheesy Thundercats reference - I'm still a child of the eighties and I'm proud of it). |

Take the test and test yourself!
Or, look at it this way. Can you pick out, 100% guaranteed, an Irishman from a German from a Frenchman from a Brit from Romanian, if they all don't talk? Hell, let's throw a Scotsman and an Italian in there while we're at it.
I like the new-age urban myth that we're expected to be able to tell all these cats apart now. Total 180....at least it's better than what the other end of the spectrum is guilty of. |

the test threw me for a loop the second time I took it. hum
The colour of the eyes might offer something I think. . .after being here for three years, I've noticed that Korean / Japanese mix have lighter brown eyes. . . |

I remember a college friend of mine telling me taht Chinese look like Japanese. I had a Korean girlfriend who told me that she can tell if a person is Mongolian, Chinese, or Japanese simply by looking at their ears. I've heard that Chinese have thinner hair. The Japanese are said to have softer *beep.* |

That test is banjaxed by the way- devised to present koreans that look japanese and vice versa. Don't take it!!
Seriously, I think Koreans average the largest heads and squared- off faces. Chinese are to my mind shorter and lighter build, with more oval faces. Japanese women are shorter than Koreans on average. The difference in dress sense and style between Koreans and Japs is marked, your visa run to Japan should tell you that at least. Japanese actually wear sneakers a lot more and are a lot more individual in their image.
One on one it can be hard to tell the diff: but if you had a group of Japs stood beside a group of Koreans, the difference would be instantly obvious. |

Koreans.. taller than most Asians.. big heads.. thick hair.. straight teeth.. cheekbones.. then the big one is the way they dress and how the women apply makeup..
Japanese.. usually shorter.. sometimes crooked teeth moreso on average.. prefer certain hairstyles over other Asians.. slightly more pale than most any other Asian.. fashion statements.. sneakers.. those 70s basketball style shoes.. nod their heads constantly when in agreement.. cringed hair.. somewhat thinner hair than Koreans.. generally shorter - you'd have to be to fit into those ultra-small houses over there..
Chinese.. varies tremendously to where you go..
Beijing has more of those girls with the.. ahmm.. 'overbites' that they characterized Chinaman in cartoons of yesteryear.. plus they have a smaller face.. and thinner hair.. sometimes almost no chin as well..
Shanghai little darker eyes and skin.. just slightly.. I think they look pretty good there.. put just a little different.. i don't recall any overbites or weak chins there.. but not necessary strong like in Korea however.. imbetween i guess..
Also people from all over China pour into Beijing and Shanghai.. so its a mixed bag.. I just mentioned those two cities as it seemed to have those characteristics moreso than others if you were to try to do a mental image of bodily characteristics on average.. but many people don't fit into that either in such places..
The hard thing with China however is that its such a vast country.. its hard to know in that country.. however you can identify the koreans and japanese immediately apart because of fashion, way they talk and walk, how they present themselves, and general body characteristics.. so then you can just assume they are from somewhere in China.
Sometimes however though Koreans and northeast Chinese can look similar.. as the Manchurian race in the northeast is also quite tall and has similar appearances to Koreans as well as Mongolians.. so if a Manchurian Chinese or Mongolian was in Korea.. it might be really hard to pick them out from the crowd.
However, Japanese are really easy.. you can spot a Japanese a mile away in Korea if you pay attention particularly to mannerisms, the way they walk, and the nods of their head, the way the makeup is applied, the choice of hairstyle, etc. You can actually spot them anywhere in the world actually. Same as Koreans as they are so homogenious and so uniform in culture.. Chinese can be a bit of a mixed fish in the obvious department.. its not as uniform by any means..
Mannerisms, habits, and fashion are always the biggest statements however.. |

The one that really got me was a girl with very slant eyes. I guessed NOT Korean, turns out she was Korean.
The adjushi's were cake. Scored well with those pics, the girls were hard.
Anyways got 9/18....50%. Considering the first couple guys have scrunched faces which could make them one or the other, I'd say the test WANTS you to fail.
Might see how Korean's do on the test...gonna try at work tomorrow. |
