i'm getting christmas day off and all of next week. Our director said we could either have boxing day or 2nd off so we all chose the 2nd. But earlier in the year, out of the blue, they gave us Halloween off.....which we all thought a little strange.

I would have liked to have been given that choice. We have the 26th off and part of the next week but have to go back to work on the 2nd (Friday) for the start of Winter School.

I actually don't mind going and being a seat warmer. My school has a nice track and field I'm gone exercise everyday. Plus it keeps me busy studying, and actually doing stuff I set out to do.

I got one camp but I don't have to do any prep cause I am just only going to assist.

Running around the track in sub-zero temps...no thanks. I prefer my local gym. I just leave my com running, pop over to the gym, workout and return to work to turn off my com around quitting time.

Christmas Eve: get drunk after work with the other two waegooks in my town who haven't yet left.
Christmas Day: go out to the nicest restauarnt in town with the same two waegooks for smoked turkey dinner and get drunk.
Boxing Day: go off on staff workshop and get drunk.

To say the least, Christmas has pretty well devolved into a non-event for me in Korea.

I had my vacation start on the 26th so I'm off from 11:30 on the 24th through to mid Jan. Gonna have to prep a stack of .ppt-s for winter camp though.

For Dain Bae and GEPIK. This is how you retain people.
October 2008:
PS V.P: "We understand that Christmas is a special time for you to be with your family"
Me: "Yes it is"
PS V.P: "We would like to offer you a Christmas vacation leaving on the 24th of December, and returning mid January. When you come back, we would like you to teach a short English program for a week.(20hrs) What do you think?"
Me: "Fantastic!"
PS V.P: "We would also like you to continue working here in 2009, if we are funded" (private High School)
Me: "Yes please!"

Well, that's basically what was said. I know on Dave's there are a lot of complaints about jobs, but sometimes people do get jobs which are great. At the moment I'm one of them. I hope that GEPIK and those who run the ESL program will discover that mature adults can come to agreements which are mutually beneficial for not only the Employer and Employee but also for the students. Happy teacher = Happy student. GEPIK, let schools and teachers negotiate!!

I got (sort of) shafted this vacation. I work at two separate public schools and normally I'd only have a vacation program at one of them, but this vacation the local office of education decided to crack down and see to it that I work a vacation program at both schools. I used to get four to five weeks off each time, now I'm only getting about two.
