Just found out I was teaching Monday. Well, I found out on Friday (they told me before that Friday was the last day before the break) and I've been too active this weekend to work on my lesson plan.

Since tomorrow is the last day before vacation (I think? I could be teaching Tuesday too... I don't know) I need to make a lesson that is very easy and game/video-oriented. Maybe with a Christmas theme, but I don't care either way. It's for High School.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Just click BAAM Christmas on the left of the main page of EFL Classroom 2.0.

I made BAAM as a premium game to keep all students interested. Unlike other games it really does! Takes a whole class but you might want to just brainstorm (get them to do this in groups if possible), X-mas vocab first so it is fresh in their mind....or play a video and ask. Or use one of the many Christmas ppts in our resources. Then , play BAAM!

Write the words because, and, but & so on the board.

Write the begining of a sentence such as she pushed [insert students name] from the window...

Get the students to build up the sentence but using the words above.

It's been a good 20-minute filler for me. Works best in teams of four obviously. Alternatively, in teams, get them to write their own sentence and then get them to read them out to the class. Award points etc for the most imaginative.

I gotta say BAAM is the best game ever.
I have an elaborate jeporady game and it nowhere even compares to the effectiveness of BAAM.

Too bad I can't figure out how to change the numbers. The students have already memorized where the BAAMs are.

That might work. Anything that kills time Wink

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm using BAAM and another game... What about videos?

I tried showing them Mr. Bean's Christmas this morning (part 2 and 3, I did part 1 last week) but the boys classes don't seem to like Mr. Bean that much. Maybe it's because we did Mr. Bean three times this year.

Any other suggestions? Doesn't need to be a Christmas video, though that is preferred. I'm scared to death of choosing my own videos for class because I don't know what the kids like, and they only seem to like a third of what I choose (at random).

Santa Clause or anything with slapstick physical humour. They love seeing Santa fall down and Tim Allen in his undies. Jacka** might even work.

Incognito --

Show the Great Toy Robbery! I just made a page of all my own favorite NFB films for teachers. I've used them extensively throughout the years and have designed a really super page , just click and play in class. (but use Firefox, haven't figured out the IE7 loading problem). Get directed there by clicking the top left link on the main page. Educational Videos. Your students will love it and design an activity around it. http://eflclassroom.ning.com/page/national-film-board-animations

Goku! Thanks. I really just took a game I developed called big gun/little gun (like the Mafia game) and made it less violent!

You can just move the slides around by dragging them to a different place
, drag them on the left in edit... then save . That should work and the board will stay the same. Just don't change the position of the first 3 slides

Cheers,

Goku,

Ignore the above advice about changing slides. I was rushing out the door to a workshop and not thinking straight!

What you have to do is go to edit and the "home" slide with all the numbers. On top of each square is an invisible "action button". What you have to do is switch this action button around. Click on the edge of a number square and it will show a border. Drag that border to the edge somewhere and then grab another and replace it on this uncovered square. Take another drag off and replace. Continue as necessary. You don't have to do too many to make it so they won't know ......

But all teachers, Jeopardy, BAAM or whatever, should go through the slides beforehand and try to personalize. Add a student's name, change something to a verb recently highlighted etc.... this is really key and effective. Of course, in a pinch, light up and play!

Thanks DD!

Yeah I tried moving the slides around but they stayed the same. I'll do as you suggest right now.

Even though it's kinda late OP, I suggest all teachers pick up BAAM, even for highschoolers. I used to be "Candy teacher Candy!" now it's "BAAM teacher BAAM"

lol I customize it a lot to my students. I take stuff out of the book, I throw in some anecodtes about myself and I make ridiculous money amounts...
