How is this any better than under Saddam?

Under Saddam the shoe thrower would have been shot or decapitated.

Doesn't invalidate his action.

I would hope that after 5 years, tens of thousands dead, hundreds of thousands wounded and displaced, and billions and dollars, that the current Iraqi would at the very least be better than it was under Hussein.

It's not whether or not the average Iraqi thinks he is any better off that is important. The only thing that matters is we think the average Iraqi is better off.

Under Saddam and, as the OP conveniently ignores, most of the current cast of Arab leaders, there wouldn't even have been a press conference.

In Saddam's Iraq if you said something against Saddam your sister would get raped.

So many of those who like to go after Bush were kind of silent when Saddam , Ali Khamnai or Osama Bin Laden killed a lot of people. But it is all just a coincidence right?

These types are no different than those in South Korea who say Bush is evil and Kim Jong Il is a patriot fighting to reunify the country

What about Suharto? Surely you're a hypocrite if you forget to mention Suharto? And how about Islom Karimov? And doesn't Than Shwe qualify? Then there's Mugabe. He should be condemned too.

If you fail to condemn them, you condone them.

And my score on the game is 14, but I keep letting the mouse pointer stray outside the game area.

Suharto is long gone.

anyway you miss the point , these people never said anything about any of those leaders ever .Cause they are not concerend with human rights nor are they anti war , they are just anti US.

There is no such thing as political morality. They are dishonest about their motives.

^ Well I'm not sure who 'these people' are, but you conservatives always seem so sure everyone knows you get us to collude with you. Whoever they are, my point is (and you missed it) judge yourself by the same standards you judge them by: i.e. don't forget to condemn every other leader in the world worth condemning whenever you - rightly - condemn Saddam for his abuses.

And if you aren't prepared to do that, why do you expect Bush's critics to do the same?

These people are the ones who are mentioned in the article.

At the time close to the start of the war on terror

Quote:
Behind Algeria, on a score of 110.55, come North Korea, Burma, Indonesia, Libya, Colombia, Syria, Iraq, Yugoslavia and China. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and Nigeria follow closely. The United Kingdom comes 141st; a good score on a global basis but not so admirable when compared with other rich, industrialised countries - we are seventh out of 23.

Quote:
It scores 10 out of 10 on denial of majority rights because of gassing the Kurds.

A country with a wretched record of human rights abuse could score a maximum total of 190. Saddam Hussein's Iraq proves the winner of the unmodified list - which measures human rights abuses outside of their economic context - with an unadjusted score of 155.

http://www.algeria-watch.org/mrv/mrvrap/observe4.htm

So it seems that governments and nations hostile to the US have the worst human rights records. Yet most of these people never said anything. Not anti war just anti US.

They are the ones to condemn first.
