Well, I have come home for Xmas (Oz) for the first time in a very long while. One thing that I have noticed is the appearance of the local women here.
Generally speaking, the level of presentation when they are out and about is quite low compared with Korean women. Yes, it is summer (here is Oz) and the holiday season but they certainly don't take as much pride in the way they present themselves or the pride they put into the way they look. I find this very unappealling (not attractive at all).
I also found this when I visit the States (which I do every year) in Florida.
Only been here a short time but I already miss the everyday EC of Korea.
Happy Xmas |

About an hour after I got off the plane I stopped by a Walmart to pickup a few things (this was in Southern California). The first thing I noticed was the amount of fat people. I am talking both men and women. In regards to the women, I couldn't believe how little effort, if any, they put into making themselves look presentable. They were all wearing tattered jeans with fat rolls hanging out, tattoos all over the place, piercings, flip flops, and tank tops and swearing up a storm. I almost wanted to cry to still do every time I go out in public. I guess many western women just don't give a crap how they look because after all who do they have to impress? Men?? Yeah right! |

It sure isn't the way it used to be where women dressed up really pretty and most people took a bath every day and a little pride in themselves. So many tacky looking fat people at home like Travelingfool mentions. It's the same. I couldn't bring myself to find those women attractive or anything I'd want to boof. More like barf.
It shows that they have low regard for themselves and low self esteem. Those pretty ladies and well dress handsome gents have a high standard of living and have higher personal standards. They're not worrying about how to pay the next $100 of bills while living paycheck to paycheck and struggling in a Wal-Mart store kind of lifestyle, because they either choose not to or don't have to. |

Well, let's be fair; American men don't put much effort in their appearance, too. I'm from a little hick town, and if you dress up, people think that you're gay or worse: a metrosexual. A few years ago, I took a human sexuality class in college. This annoying blonde in the class asked the teacher, "My younger brother likes to wear nice clothes. Is he, like, one of those metrosexuals or something?"
I don't like the tattoos and the piercings that a lot of American women have, but I actually prefer their style compared with Korean women. Sure, Korean women dress up, but come one; let's look at most of the outfits that they wear. Too '80s-ish for me, thanks. |

Everything in bold is bs. Jogging pants does not mean low self esteem. High heels does not mean high sense of self worth. You are trying to rationalize everything in italics, as in you don't want to make babies with them. Fine, don't make babies with them. Just remember, you have left a country where husband hunting is not only a proud occupation, it is a woman's duty. Liberation means you don't have to dress up to be eye candy if you don't want to. Neener neener neener. |

That is why this part of the world is so much more pleasing.
Even the absolutely minging women put some effort into their appearance.
Doesn't matter if they are the size of a house or have buck teeth and bong-eyes they will still put a bit of slap on to make themselves a bit more appealing.
Showing legs - it doesn't matter if your legs have been hacked up by Sweeney Todd and had cigarettes stubbed out on them. The ladies here will get them out and show them off. |

This applies just as much us men as it does to women. The stereo type in Korea about westerners having no fashion sense is not restricted to women.
I don't like wearing any shirt that I have to tuck in. I'll do it if I'm going somewhere nice, but not to work if I can avoid it. A lot of the Korean male teachers wear suits.
Yes, I know, this doesn't apply to you. You are very well dressed. |

I agree, but then I dont care if a guy doesnt dress to get action. I just move on to the guy who does. I dont whine when I move to a free thinking liberated country and note a lot of people have chosen not to be eye candy; I just hit on the people I like. Why the hell are some guys here whining about other peoples looks? That seems a bit presumptuous. |

Yep, presumptuous and just plain weird. Who cares?
It must be a hard life to walk around constantly bothered by what other people do, what they look like, what they eat, what they wear. I don't know how you do it. |

I'm sorry none of the women back home work in a places where if they don't wear make up their bosses will consider them lazy.
Seriously, Korean women aren't dressing up for your benifit. Western women don't either.
I'll take a pretty girl dressed casually than princess any day. |

It depends where you are too. Big box stores suburbia are most likely to have moms, not white collar professional women in power suits and Luboutin heels. |

You can't compare the way people in a metropolitian dress city to hicktown USA styles... Try comparing the way the average educated office worker in NYC dresses to the way the average Korean Seoulite dresses. You'd probably find that educated people that make decent money dress about equally. |

I think the NYC girls would probably have the Korean girls beaten in terms of brands and maybe even style (considering here it looks like they all bought from the same internet shopping site). |

^^ Very true.
How many 30 year old American men and women wear matching teddy bear tracksuits? |
