Now I'm travelled, multi-lingual, and big and scary (or at least big)
-Several times young Korean men (college students or nogadah types) drinking and discussing me and my foreign friends, in korean, and then bursting into laughter.
-I'm drunk so I have enough and say in Korean "You guys know we can understand you right?"
-They respond by doing that 'ok, ok' thing and then go straight back to dissing us. They even decided I was Russian.
-Well we ignored them, went back to our late night beer and mok-sam-gyop and waited until they left. What gets me is this. Imagine you walk into a bar in New Mexico. Figuring the 'beaners' in the corner don't understand English you make several wet-back jokes. And get stabbed in the eye.
-Or you waltz into the belge pub in France and decide to start loudly discussing how the french are all 'cheese-eating-surrender-monkies.' And you get your ass kicked.
-Or heck go into a Bar in North Philadelphia and decide to refer to the owner as 'boy'. You're swiss cheese whitey.
-Why do korean men feel they are indestructable. I mean what if the three of else just lost it and went at them? How did they know we wouldn't. They weren't itching for a fight, it is the TOTAL lack of respect they display for us as a human. I don't get it. I don't see this behavior in other countries. And I hate to make another racist post, but I think Korean culture is racist. I want to see a logical argument (not some Everybody is racist, or only some Koreans are racist. I think Korean Culture or Korean Groupthink is racist intrinsic.) |

I'm not going to commenton your accusations of racism, but in regards to why (some) Koreans (sometimes) seem to think they're indestuctable, I think it's because Korea is so non-violent in general.
Isn't it a good thing that the things that happened in your NM/France?PA examples don't happen here?
It's also lucky that they don't, otherwise loud rude drunken foreigners who walk around like they own the place would be getting bashed every night. |

But, this is not New Mexico, France or Philadelphia, this is Korea.
I've been in many places where people make fun of minorities, it's not nice, but it's just the way it is - and in Korea, you are the minority. |

Turn the argument around where foreigner make fun of the Korean guys or say insulting things about the women. They can also understand us (some of the time). I still remember that thread where a poster reported on two white guys talking about wanting to do sexual stuff to this beautiful Korean girl sitting nearby. She pretended she didnt understand until she got off and then told them to go f themselves. Everybody can have a total LACK of respect for each other. |

There are arseholes everywhere. If your feelings were hurt you could have gone home and phoned your mum. Or you could have had a laugh with your mates about the Koreans smallpenis reputation.
Korean males are not the only ones who think they are invincible. Try going to the UK and meeting knife wielding neds/chavs. All they need is to be knocked on their arse a couple of times for them to wise up.
Have a nice Christmas. |

Actually in New Mexico the Mexicans would be talking about the white people in Spanish. Trust me I've lived there.
This happens everywhere, a group of people want to talk about another group of people in a language they think that person can't speak or understand. The only similar situation I've come across here is being with a mixed group of people where sometimes the conversation is in English and sometimes in Korean. When they start hearing everyone speaking English, then their table wants to start speaking English, well err curse words as a way of mocking us. The table kept saying *beep* you to each other, so I yelled *beep* you back and they didn't say anything after that.

Nearly happened in a hof bar in Jukjeon on Saturday night - some Koreans started shouting stupid crap in English to me and a South African mate and we took them up on it - they only bottled it when they found out that the rest of the Koreans in the bar weren't going to back them up, told them to shut it and apologized to us for their behaviour. I'm sure the ones that were caused the aggro would have twatted us but the numbers (there ended up being around 12 of them in the end) and thus the odds weren't enough in their favour - so the ones who started mouthing off left and we carried on drinking.

I've noticed this too.
You don't to do this in the US or anywhere. You don't know how much trouble you can get by F***ing the wrong people.
I guess there is no mafia or gangs here for them to be worried about. We need to form some sort of Expat gang to deal with Sh1ts like these. They don't bother me personally but it's their arrogance just makes me want to show them how far my fist can get in their insides.
I was jogging and this college kids looks at me straight in the eye with this condesending look. Granted it was winter and I'm a weigook jogging, that's fine. A snicker or a smile. But the bloody biotch looked me straight in the eye and gave that condesending look... like I couldn't hurt him. Oh my god, if he wasn't with his girlfriend he so would have felt pavement. I did bump into him on purpose to make him lose his balance . But if I ever see that kid again, and he's not with some girl, I will hurt him. It's worth my visa to show that kid a life long lesson.
Hey I'm a teacher, I came here to teach.
Back at my home, no one would ever do this. Kids fear adults for a reason. Here they think they are some invincible *beep*. This is why I think beating kids should be taken to the next level. I want to beat some of these arrogant assholes to an inch of their life.
I think this does happen everywhere, but you have to admit, it happens a LOT more often than it should. And in other countries, if you get confrontational, they will stop. But they keep on going. Honestly, maybe its because they know we can't do anything.
Do we lose our visa if we get in a fight?
ps. bundangbabo lol you used the word aggro... lmao. |

wow ease off the roids there...You want to start a vigilante gang to beat up Koreans who give you cuteye? Are you nuts?
Kids aren`t afraid of adults back in America. Not one bit. You`re new here so I guess you havent read up on what happens when a foreigner beats up a godly Korean. |

I know! It was certainly aggro - though thankfully in our case didn't come to anything more than aggro - for all parites.
I think they tend to do this kind of thing when the numbers are heavily in their favour or they are with their girlfriend - relying on our better manners not to beat them up in front of a screaming woman.
In our case - the morons thought the whole bar of Koreans would back them up but when it came down to the fact that this weren't going to happen - they sat back down pretty quickly. I thanked the Koreans who helped us on this one.
In fact - In the end I had to rein in my South African mate because he was up for (and would have) giving them all a cheeky slap! |
