Ok as a western girl, do you think it's ok to have a stashe? Now i"m not talking about some small peach fuzz, I'm saying it's about a CM in length. Asking honestly...

I mean that's why I'm worried, Honeslty i dont want to hurt her feelings, that'd be like if someone mentioned my manboobs... (which are oh so sexy btw). I think shes insecure about it too because she always covers her mouth...

I just want her to shave the damn thing. So she would stop hiding her face. It's not hard. I don't see the problem. I have a stache too and I shave it.

Although, from a girls perspective, do you think that would really make her insecure? Cause I also want to mention the halitosis....

Well it's normal for certain girls to have more hair, but she should definitely take care of it. I'm sure she's very insecure about it and she's not happy. The reason she doesn't take care of it is perhaps she doesn't know what to do to get rid of it. Maybe she doesn't read enough girl magazines or is scared of the results.

Anyways, you should bring it up if it bothers you so much. She'll probably be hurt by it, there's no good way to tell a girl. Maybe just bring up that in Western culture most girls are really fussy about body hair and take off everything.

Maybe she thinks laser treatment is too pricey, but she can pick up waxing strips at Olive Young and any dept. store for cheap.

Well, having been around Korean girls so much I can imagine she would take it really personally. I even picture the covering up mouth thing, as I've seen it a lot.
If you are going to talk to her about it, don't make it as though you have a problem with it. Turn it in the direction of whether or not she is comfortable with it. Play dumb and ask whether Korean girls care about things like that. Granted, she may not tell the truth.
I'd say if you all have been together for a while and are very comfortable then it's a different issue.
But me personally, I get those random dark hairs on my chin and pluck them, though it's not at all a stashe. They bother me when I rub my fingers on my chin, which I'm constantly doing. I guess it's just hard for me to imagine a full on stashe because I don't pay much attention to the natural stuff. Badly done/unnatural eyebrows bothers me way more.
Regardless, K-girls get feelings hurt easily and create a bunch of drama about it. Tread carefully.

now you know why I think a good body is more important than a good face. Off with the glassess, I can't see if she has a stache, a beard or even eyes...

Asian people dont shave, but the culture has been changed gradually.

Also there are things in people only eyes from others could see, I would be so much grateful if my friend tell me there is spinach in my teeth.

As a women, I like straightforward boyfriends, they make me see my shortcomings and help me improve myself. They teach because they love me. It might be embarrasing, but smart women know what will not be embarrassing to them eventually, right?

Actually just last week she told she was going with her cousin to get laser surgery to get rid of it. After thinking about how immature I was about mentioning it to her, I told her that it doesn't bother me.

In fact, in a weird way I've grown to like it (sort of like a little quirk about her). So I actually tried to persuade her not to do it. I don't know if she will still do it, but I'll be happy with whatever decision she makes.

Thanks everyone for the posts, it actually convinced me otherwise of something I was adamant about changing her, but now I've come to accept her for her flaws and imperfections. Glad I got some decent advice on Dave's for a change hahahaha.

I went from going to university in Canada to going to university in Korea, and I'd say maybe 5% more Koreans have bad acne compared to Canadian students. Nothing really different.

Acne is caused from eating processed cereal grains (such as rice, wheat, oats) and high glycemic index/insulin index sugars (potatoes, sugar, dairy). The hyperinsulinemia caused by those foods increases IGF-1 levels which causes keratonicytes to divide abnormally. Additionally, the lectins in the cereal grains such as wheat, beans, and rice help to inflame the acne by causing an immune reaction, because they enter the bloodstream through "back door" cells in the gut. That, and the acne is further inflamed by a poor omega 3:6 intake ratio in the diet.

Acne can be completely solved by adopting a diet that adheres to those principles. I suffered from acne that was resistant to even the strongest drugs like Accutane, and was finally cured when I studied the endocrinological pathology of acne and constructed a diet based on that information

Bryan, could you please elaborate your findings (e.g. detailed information on the appropriate diet). I have two sisters suffering from acne and it is wrecking havoc on their self-esteem - it doesn't help they apply makeup to cover it up, which worsens the symptom imo.

You're a breath of fresh air. As a man, I'm the same way--I'm very grateful to many of my ex's for pointing out my flaws. One ex taught me table manners, another taught me how to dress; one taught me economics, another taught me how to avoid psycho bitches. I'm grateful to many of them for making me who I am today (and resentful to some of them for the same reason...)

hahahah typical Korean response but oh so true...my K boyfriend and I just had this discussion. He was telling me that I am sick because these last few weeks (due to stress) I have not been eating healthy and exercising and I asked him why he was so mean to me and he told me he was just telling me so I could improve myself. We had a good laugh....I then told him "Have I been making a mistake all this time supporting you, encouraging you, and using positive reinforcement with you?" and he told me "yes, Koreans want you to tell them what is wrong so they can fix it" Note to self....be a biatch, the BF loves it! No, he needs it!

Most Korean women believe in the myth that shaving hair causes it to grow back faster, thicker, and darker.

On the other hand I've noticed that so many Koreans, teens and adults, have dreadful acne; far more so than Westerners. I wonder what causes this as their diet seems relatively clean. I never saw so many people with bad complexions. Why?

The diet is not as great as it seems. Young Koreans generally eat loads of refined carbohydrates (although perhaps not as much as cola drinking westerners) in processed junk food like ramen noodles.

Also certain Korean food are very high in iodine from salt/seaweed content, and iodine is a possible dietary factor thought to be a cause of acne in some individuals.

Quote:
The researchers hypothesize that the association may be caused by hormones (such as several sex hormones and bovine insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)) or even iodine[21] present in cow milk. Some but not all of these products survive digestion and could have biological effects in humans. Though there is evidence of an association between milk and acne, the exact cause remains unclear.

[edit] Carbohydrates

The long-held belief that there is no link between diets high in refined sugars and processed foods, and acne, has recently been challenged.[15] The previous belief was based on earlier studies (some using chocolate and Coca Cola) that were methodologically flawed.[15][22][23] The recent low glycemic-load hypothesis postulates that rapidly digested carbohydrate foods (such as soft drinks, sweets, white bread) produce an overload in blood glucose (hyperglycemia) that stimulates the secretion of insulin, which in turn triggers the release of IGF-1.[15] IGF-1 has direct effects on the pilosebaceous unit (and insulin at high concentrations can also bind to the IGF-1 receptor)[24] and has been shown to stimulate hyperkeratosis and epidermal hyperplasia.[25] These events facilitate acne formation. Sugar consumption might also influence the activity of androgens via a decrease in sex hormone-binding globulin concentration.[26][27]

In support of this hypothesis, a randomized controlled trial of a low glycemic-load diet improved acne and reduced weight, androgen activity and levels of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1.[28] High IGF-1 levels and mild insulin resistance (which causes higher levels of insulin) had previously been observed in patients with acne.[29][30][31] High levels of insulin and acne are also both features of polycystic ovarian syndrome.[15]

According to this hypothesis, the absence of acne in some non-Westernized societies could be explained by the low glycemic index of these cultures' diets.[32]

That they REALLY need to shave?

I don't mean this as an insensitive topic, but it seems to me almost every woman and even girls have a bit of stash, more so than men. And it's been bothering me.

Is there like some stigma against shaving? Do they think its gonna come out fuller if they do? Can't they wax it?

I'd ask them myself but uhhh... I'm already on thin ice for saying "Yeah I think you've had plastic surgery". Very very thin ice....

Sorry ladies if I'm being too "man" here. But I am what I am.

Maybe you should just go aquaint yourself with more World of Warcraft girls instead of real life ones.

I don't believe that shaving makes hair actually grow in thicker and darker, but it definitely can make it APPEAR thicker and darker. It cuts the strands straight across so that rather than tapering off like an uncut hair (and thus gradually getting thinner and thinner), it's thick all the way through to the end -- thus the thickness is generally more noticeable, and the hair often appears darker.

So I would never, ever shave my upper lip. I don't give a crap if it isn't ACTUALLY making hair grow back thicker -- it's the appearance of thick hair I'd be interested in avoiding.

I'll be honest and say that, as someone with olive skin and dark, insanely thick hair, I do occasionally need to do a little bit of maintenance work on my upper lip. Thick, fast-growing hair is awesome on my head, not so much on my face. But I would never dream of shaving it. I occasionally bleach it, in the winter when I'm pale, but because my skin is usually quite tan, I find that using some of those cream hair-removal things usually works best. Waxing often clogs my pores and leaves me with bumps in place of hair, which is even worse, so I don't do that anymore -- but that might just be me. Left with the choice between growing a petite lady stache and shaving it off, I would ABSOLUTELY let it grow.
