I've had some job offers from all 3 places. I'm leaning towards Goseong (the one in Gyeongsamnamdo) but can't find out too much information about the area. I'd like a really rural area where I can live in relative obscurity and work on my hobbies. I don't drink or smoke, and only occasionally go for nights out, which I don't mind travelling for. Which of the options would be more suitable for me?

Also, they are all public school positions. Is it possible in any way to get accommodation in one of those little country houses with a tiny garden? Wishful thinking I know but hey, a girl can dream! I'm heading to south coastline for my vacation so I can visit 2 of the areas in question. (If anyone wants to come, they're welcome!)

One last thing, does anyone know the procedure for changing schools? Is it going to involve getting another CBC and transcripts sent over? Thanks for your help in advance.

If you want rural/middle of nowhere you can't go wrong with Gangwon province. Alotta emptiness there.

Yeosu is a very big city. There are rural parts, such as the islands. But it'd be like living on the outskirts of Vancouver.

Chungnam....where is that?

Goseong is in between 2 big cities, Tongyeong and Jinju. It is fairly rural, but that might not be rural enough for ya.

I can only tell you about Yeosu:

it's big in the sense that it's spread out. There is a fair population there for a country town I guess, but there's also a fair bit of sprawl. There are some really beautiful places around the city, but they tend to be on islands which take a bit of time to get to.

It's relatively warm there. There are palm trees of some kind growing around the town.

It probably depends a bit on what your hobbies are as to where you'd like to be, eg. if you're into skiing, go to Gangwondo. If you like sailing or wind surfing, there are clubs in Yeosu.

Finally, Yeosu's in Joellanamdo which has the best Korean food... but is also probably furthest away from Seoul and a bigger variety of international foods and other stuff. So again, it depends what you're in to.

I spent 10 months in Yeosu and though it didn't really suit me personally I've got to say the city and environs have a lot of attractions.

I've got loads of Yeosu photos up on Facebook. Search for Duncan McGilvray Davidson.

I'd love to have a wee place in the Korean countryside. Gardening is cool. Very Happy

I like Goseong. It's my wife's home town. It's just the right size for me. Big enough to have small city amenities, nice indoor swimming pool, Namsan Park right in town , variety of restaurants, some of which are really pretty good , decent supermarkets, 15 minutes by car to E-Mart in tong young. Easy bus ride to Masan , Tong young or Jinju. But it's also small enough to be a short walk out of the main town into the countryside. Goseong eup is the main town, the rest of Goseong gun (county) is pretty rural with a variety of small villages along the coast or back in the mountains (ok, really big hills) Samsan myeon along the coast is very beautiful, as are a number of other areas. Is your job offer in Goseong eup or one of the myeons? Have you seen Goseong's website? http://eng.goseong.go.kr/main/main.asp
