Here's the situation. My friend has a contract at a local hagwon, but his director has asked him to teach at a local public school as well. He has been told that the entire process is above board, meaning that he will be technically working for the same hagwon company, but he has also been asked to set up a direct payment method from the public school to his bank account.
I thought that he should have his pay go through his hagwon, so that it's clear who he is working for and receiving payments from, but he says that wasn't an option.
What steps can he take to try to make sure that he isn't breaking the law?
Where can he get information about how he can legitimize it if it's currently not legal?
Any and all information would be very appreciated. |

Moved this here from the General forum. Job-related inquiries belong here.
Also, a search of the forums will reveal numerous threads on this issue. Granted, the site's search function leaves a lot to be desired, but Google can be used to search the forums by adding the operator "site:forums.eslcafe.com/korea" (without the quotes) after your search terms. |

I'll judge from the traffic and amount of responses whether or not that was a good call.
Here's hoping. |

I believe you asked 3 questions...
Does your friend have an E-2 visa? Are you acting as a law researcher for your friend? Of course it is your friend's duty to know Korean laws(especially labor laws) just as it is for your friend's employer. Sounds to me like your friend may soon be teach illegally.
Your friend needs to get a second employer placed on the back of his/her Alien Registration Card(ARC). The second employer will be put on the back of your friend's ARC by Immigration. Your friend should know this???
Your friend will need to go to Immigration with a document provided by the employer that gives your friend PERMISSION to work for a second employer.
Your friend should be careful because the Director is SCUM/SCAM ARTIST for supposedly going "above board" when it CLEARY" isn't unless a trip is made to Immigration to make it legal. The Director is either a Dumb A _ _ or a CROOK. |
